When I had my 1st gen I used 50:50 Cold-press olive oil and kerosene. Ran strong for years.

Jokes aside, in my opinion it does not matter in a 1st gen engine, just make sure you use a somewhat decent brand, the engine has enough in it, and you change it reasonably regularly.

My oil cap says 5-30, so I run 5-30 Castrol.

For non-racing driving, it don't matter the brand so long as it’s a reputable name brand. You can’t go wrong with the $19 synthetic 5-qt high mileage jugs from SuperTech (Walmart brand). That being said, I get the 6-qt $28 Havoline syn box so that I have no left over oil.

Use what is stated in the owners manual.

    I don’t have the owners Manuel. It’s a 1998 with a 3.5 and I bought it less then 2 months ago.

It's just a recurring question on here, don't worry they arent mad, just see it often.

Stick to 5W30 any kind of oil is good to go.

    Yeah. Definitely not mad here.
    You are fine OP.

But these threads usually turn into an argument.
And most of the information is opinion based, not fact.

I don’t even off my opinion anymore.
I just tell everyone to use what the manual says.
That way they, or whoever, can argue with the manual and not me.

When you click on a users name you'll find info that includes an 'ignore' button. Clicking that will keep you from seeing posts by them.

    It does come in handy.

You can download a PDF version of your manual for free from Toyota. Not practical to print out or carry around, but at least gives you something to refer to for the basics.
