I have a 30k BTU vent free Mr. Heater blue flame. Works great and is efficient. I run it off a 20lb tank that I have outside and a long hose. I have a box fam hung from the ceiling circulating the heat around on low speed.

How long can you get off the 20lb tank?

I run a 60k btu torpedo propane heater for now. I'd like the 200k one but $100 price difference and I have a pellet stove to use once I get the chimney ran

I’m not in the garage every Saturday but when I’m out there I heat it to about 65-70F (insulated) and fill the tank 1 or 2 times a winter.

I was a big duratrac fan and just dealt with the shitty wear for a long time. And having the c-load option was great. But after swapping to the st maxx, I don't think I could ever go back.

They hooked up in the greasy packed road stuff this past storm so much better than the good years for AT tires

I had the ST Maxx on a work van... well, when they were new.
Great option. Just a tough pill to swallow on the Tacoma due to weight.

I was toying with a set of Maxxis 255/85s, since I can get them in D range, and save the ATs for this crap basically.
    Or some ST Maxx.
I dunno, haven't made up my mind, still digging through wheel options, backspacing, blah blah.

Do either of you have issues with condensation? When your burning propane without a vent that is 5 gallons of water for every 20 lb tank.

My reason for leaning towards infrared is my shop is very uninsulated, and pretty big with tall cielings. I feel like if I heated the air it would just go right out. I am also out there probably 3 nights during the week for 3-4 hours then on the weekend 16-20 hrs.

@tacobell007 your garage isnt insulated right?

The skinny 33's are easy and there is alot of people around here who have done it and are going to do it.

If you want no cutting go with stock offset +25 or whatever it is

If your fine with possibly doing a CMC and pinch weld 0 offset is a good setup IMO

No it's not, it's also got plenty of air gaps and the walls before the roof pitch are at 13.5' if I remember right

I run the heater on high for about 30mins and then point it in my general direction and go down to low setting. Usually just enough that I might get a little too hot with my sweatshirt on while doing underhood work

No issues with condensation. It does fog up the windows and there will be some condensation at the bottom of them but it’s not bad enough to to an issue. I had a propane torpedo heater (60k btu) but it didn’t have auto shutdown and reignition so it was a PIA as I’d be under a car starting to sweat and have to get up to turn it off. Then it would get cold and I’d have to do the same again. Not being insulated is an issue. You’ll use a lot of whatever to keep it warm so radiant is probably the best idea.

That's what I have too - works great. I run it off a 20 lb tank, but I do have a 50 gallon tank next to my garage that's used for one of the fireplaces and the piping goes right through the garage so I feel like I could safely take advantage of that somehow even though the unit says not to.

I also have a 6000 watt electric unit hanging from the ceiling. That has a hard time heating the space, but it'll maintain it. So I usually heat it up with the propane unit then shut that off and let the electric one maintain.

If I insulated the garage, it'd be a lot easier, but I really only work out there occasionally in the winter so my system works for now. My garage is 24x24, wide open up to the roof - even just putting foam board on the ceiling to close up the peaked section would probably make a huge difference.

edit: the doors are crap Coplay single sided doors with very little insulation.

I used to work in an old polebarn about that size- I stitched together several canvas dropcloths and rigged it as a "ceiling" with steel cable and staples, then blew a bunch of cellulose on top of it. Worked great, cost little.

That's a good idea - I had thought about doing the foam board approach but it's expensive and time consuming. Canvas would be a piece of cake.

Yea I was considering foam board, I just don't want to buy foam board and then in a couple years have John come and spray foam everything. I also have some shop fans I have to put up so I can try to keep the heat down

Yeah I am thinking the same with sprayfoam, I think I need to reside it first. I'll probably in a few years do that but also have a mini split and a wood stove. Against code but they can kick rocks.

Both Brandon and Matt did I think 1.25" spacers. That nets you just about a 0 offset like my setup. It seems kind of hit and miss whether youll rub at that.

I took the strut out and fully cycled and pinch weld was 100% necessary and the cab mount rubbed a bit during compression but probably wasnt necessary. If you need help just let me know.
