I used this GM diode in place of my Alt-S fuse: https://amzn.to/48myDr5
It's been working well for me for 3 years, I usually get 14.3-14.5v output.

I've seen that mod. I bought a cheap piece off ebay for $30 that retains my fuse. Has a diode soldered on it. I get 14.82 first thing in the morning. Then drops to about 14.3-14.4 hot depending. Those work really well.

I put in my booster and went through several days of probing to make sure it was working properly. Once I figured out it was good, I dropped in my new X2Power 27F. These are a awesome upgrade.

I dont have a 1st gen so cant answer directly, but the HKB site shows boosters compatible with 1997 Tacos. Ive been running the fixed 0.5V booster since 2019 without issues in my 2012
    https://www.hkbelect.com/products/toyota/?model=tacoma&year=1997

HKB did have some issues with shipping times / customs a while ago (an Australian company). No idea what their shipping times are like right now, so keep that in mind

Yep, it can be done on the 1st Gen, I run one on my 1st Gen with an X2 Power 24F. There are many different products to boost voltage using the Alt-S circuit, you generally want something that will put the voltage at +0.5v (not higher) and retain the factory fuse.

Same. I did have an X2 AGM die on me but it did not leave me stranded. It was about 3.5 years old. My alt puts out 13.9-14.2 volts

Alternator is still original and not rebuilt at ~173,xxx miles.

An AGM will work without adjusting the charge voltage, so many say I ran an AGM and it worked fine. However, you will not get the optimum performance or life out of the battery you are paying a premium for. Might as well get a cheaper lead acid. Undercharging leads to sulfation which reduces battery performance and eventually causes early failure.

I'm running one of these on my truck. https://www.ebay.com/itm/266082183140 You replace the alt-s fuse with it and it retains the fuse function were the diode only eliminates the fuse.

That looks like they just took an add-a-fuse and epoxied a diode onto it...

This is the one I bought and it was like 1 day shipping because we are both in San Diego. Anyway I bought the GM diode and I was getting 14.0 no mater what the orientation. I was waiting for the battery light to come on since I tried both ways. I’m going g to take it to work and measure the voltage drop on a proper dmm. I’m just using a fluke hand held at home. And it reads .5ohm oh well I did pay $10 on Amazon because i was too lazy to drive to Napa. Well at the same time I bought this one and I plugged it in with the 7.5A fuse and used my battery tester and monitored the charging voltage and it was at 14.2V I also monitor the voltage on my scangauge and it was solid at 14.2V

so bottom line even tho I can make this for parts I already own I just decided if it works it was worth the $30.

Btw he owns a brick and mortar gun store or did. I’m not sure now. But I bought my first AR15 from him back in 2008. Anyway If you are pro 2A support him and if you are a liberal buy from him anyway because I was lying he doesn’t own a gun store. Just don’t tell the trumptards.

I ended going with this option and it works great. I like how it retains the fuse. The voltage is now at 14.9 volts. Thanks for all the good ideas much appreciated.
