Don't feel bad. I said the same thing to my daughter and she corrected me. I had to eat a slice of humble pie that day.

    Still don't like it.

    Respect for owning it

Those who are unwilling to own their mistakes irk me. Especially with children. It’s ok to be wrong, important to own it (when necessary).

But make sure to rub it in when you’re correct 99.9% of the time :burp:

I would say 65-70% of the time. I'm not that kind of parent. I learn and change my processes all the time. We also don't do the "because I told you so, that's why!" That's a cop out and don't have a good argument why. We tell our kids exactly why. You know me...very blunt and honest with my kids.

The truck had to go to the dealer because my mechanic lacks the software to do a proper diagnosis. Regardless of whether my mechanic or the dealer does it, this is gonna be around two grand that I cannot afford right now because I am unemployed. DoorDash was okay for a while but now demand is dwindling, the process of getting signed up for this program at Home Depot is taking forever, unemployment benefits and in Pennsylvania are taking forever, and I applied for a job at Domino's Pizza on December 23rd that I haven't gotten a call back on yet!

    :annoyed:

I have a more than enough money to fix the truck, but it's divided among my 401(k), a CD account, and a savings bond. None of this can be touched yet. The truck needs about three grand in work in the next couple months. This includes the ABS module, front and rear brakes, and tires; I say again that I have more than enough saved up to pay for this, but I cannot touch any of it for months because of the type of account it's in. Because of this, I am having to ask for help from my parents to pay for this, and then I will pay them back in March when this savings bond I have matures.

My mom thinks it's time to sell the truck and buy something newer with lower miles. My plan was to hold onto it until 2025-2026 at a bare minimum, and probably hold onto it longer until after I get the money for a down payment on a house!

Words cannot even describe how fucking stressed out I am!

You can drive without ABS right? We pull the fuses for it in 1st gens all the time. Brakes and tires are more important tho, but any car will need those eventually.

It will be ok buddy, try not to stress too much. Maybe your Mom is correct and it's time to start looking for a replacement, even if its a year or two earlier than you planned.

But the way it's intertwined with the truck, I feel like tempirarily disabling the ABS could cause even more problems. Also, 1st Gens don't have traction control. Wouldn't pulling the fuse cause the system to immobilize the truck again?

There's a second gen thread about disabling ABS on here I'm sure, they'd be the ones to ask. I don't think anyone "needs ABS or Traction Control" but they're nice to have. A malfunction of either shouldn't immobilize the vehicle though.

I've already paid for six months of insurance too, and I really don't want to do a trade-in. The dealer will offer me four grand for my truck and then sell it for twelve grand...

The insurance thing is no problem as they would apply it to the new policy. You have options to shop around, you could try to sell outright or maybe even to Carvana instead of a trade in.

Pull the fuse and try it. Think u will be fine. Plus it's reversible.

If I had to speculate, I'm thinking when u hit that curb with ur front wheel u sent the brake fluid back into the abs module/master cylinder and either damaged the abs solenoids or jacked something up? Maybe by pulling the fuse u can give it a reset ? Just speculation, probably over thinking..... probably a post about something similar on the BB with the offroaders.

She draws tattoos for people or whatever. She has done some work for people on TW.

We made her finish up 4H this year which consisted of drawing something. She was so mad at us and just whipped up this and turned the drawing in.

Funny, she still took 3rd in the state competition which pissed her off even more.:rofl:

People do it on their Tundras all the time Charlie. Funny thing without ABS is you will stop faster.

Check for a used module on eBay. I've had a couple friends with BMW motorcycles that had to change out the ABS module. It was a fraction of the cost and years later still working.

I always thought it was cheaper to maintain a vehicle than buy something newer...but never did the math until a friend called me out on it with my 2002 Dodge HO 2500.
He purchased a Tundra and his payment was 430 per month. I was giving him a hard time about payments and then we started adding up over 42 months of ownership how much my truck cost. Now I did put a 1000 paint job on it but the cost was still a shocking 619.00 per month average on a paid off truck. I had my Tundra in a couple months.

So you think that even though this going to exceed a grand and possibly be two grand, it's worthwhile to keep pouring money into the truck for now?

Not including the frame replacement and all that entailed in November 2021, and $3,000 in bodywork in March 2022, my truck has had the following done since August 2022...

    • Steering U-joints
    • Head gasket and timing chain (the only repair my parents paid for on this list)
    • Driveshaft U-joints
    • Radiator
    • HVAC controls rewired; control panel and blower replaced
    • Wheel speed sensor replaced

No, but it seems you have an attachment to this truck and why I made the recommendation.

The other thing is that I have the credit, but not the funds. I am having financial issues right now due to things beyond my control (unemployment, bureaucratic bullshit with getting new job, and record inflation to name a few), I'd say I probably have a little under twenty grand in savings altogether, and I really hate dipping into my savings. If my truck were in perfect operational condition, I reckon I'd get about $8,500 if I sold it privately.
