I assume most know that they can’t shoot someone simply for trying to steal their truck, however I read the sentiment a lot here. I try to chalk it up to frustration or venting but sometimes I wonder.

 

I, too, hope that the typing of violent thoughts prevents the reality. But I also try to avoid the thoughts entirely because in the wrong moment people can follow through with what they allow themselves to think. Just saying ...

 

I hope, every time I read the sentiment, that the author is educated on their local PD laws and that they practice gun safety.
Spend any amount of time reading a pistol mount thread here and I find plenty of chances to dash that hope

I’ll save the full semantics for a more appropriate thread, but even that article uses an example of being threatened with deadly force. SYG doesn’t negate deadly force only being acceptable in response to deadly force in most of the 38 (usually excluding trespassing or burglary situations). The caveat being whether or not your vehicle is considered your “castle”. Then it gets murky. What if you’re in a parking lot coming back to your vehicle and see someone in it?
I am not a lawyer and won’t speculate on what the laws are elsewhere anymore, I can barely keep ours straight, but Texas definitely wins. Wild Wild West!
