Yes, different windoors, windows, brake lights, handles, latch orientation, bed light window, bed clamps... just to name a few features.

Ahh, well..thanks for that information...was hoping to bypass the lead times by snagging one up used. Found this one on the ol' Facebook Marketplace, any way to really tell when it was made or what type of features it has compared to anything current? I've asked but the seller doesn't seem too knowledgeable about specifics. It comes with the camp kitchen and table. Thinking of making an offer on it.

There have been 3 gens. That's the 2nd gen. Not all of the changes from 2nd to 3rd gen were good changes. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a 2nd gen.

    Agree.
In some ways, I could say I prefer this generation.

In fact, aside from desiring a method to open from inside, I haven’t needed any of the new generations ‘revisions’.

I haven't done the math for all of the add-ons, but that seems like a lot being it's used. I got mine in 2022 for $3500, but it was the EVOa, no kitchen bin or table. I believe it's the 2nd gen. Other than replacing the bed rail clamps after just one trip offroad and taking the time to properly seal it, I have no complaints. But I am looking forward to the new latches coming out.

Yeah, my next question was what to offer for it. Keep in mind that seller has bundled the Prinsu rack and the Roofnest with the cap. I was thinking of snagging it all except the Prinsu (won't fit since I have an Access Cab) and offering 7k.

Otherwise, I'd probably offer just 4kish for the SmartCap considering it has the Camp Kitchen (which retails for like $1800 new) and the table ($500 new, I know $500 for a table is outrageous but hey I'd definitely get use out if it).

I've been hesitating on the roofnest since its the Falcon XL and the newer revision Falcon 2 seems to have some features I'd definitely like (blackout material and built in lighting) at a price not too far from most used ones I've seen.

The table is freaking awesome. It's crazy money for the table, but the quality is good and the convenience of access is amazing.

Only real difference is the windoors on the EVO sport and the new ones have more glass on them:

EDIT: I forgot about the window fiasco. I've got a Gen 2 and couldn't be happier.

I dont believe so; but i have no experience with the newest ones. - Some of the dealers will have the best insight on material design changes made.

I will say that i do like the look of the earlier cap glass doors better. The new vertical latches and layout I see in the new ones look a bit odd to my eye...

I may be biased prefering the old ones. But that change glared at me...

No significant changes have been made. If there was a good deal on a used one I would jump on it over buying new. Assuming the condition was good. There have been some small changes like a cutout to allow light into the bed from the 3rd brake light and slight changes to the side doors on the solid and glass panel models.

The biggest change will be the new locks whenever they decide to finish their engineering on them and get them out there.

There was some people early on in the US distribution side having issues with leaking through the windows. But I have seen any complaints on here about that in quite a while. There is also the change in orientation of the locks on the Gen 2 to a vertical vs horizontal. I have a gen 1 adventure and have not had any issues except 1. I did get some leaking through the 3rd brake light seal, however I just removed the light (its two screws), cleaned everything and placed a bead of silicone down. No issues since.

Out of curiosity how do the bed clamps look on the latest gen, I think they are significantly beefier compared to the 2nd gen ones. I wonder if I ordered some replacement bed clamps they would be the updated ones and fit with the 2nd gen

There are 3 gens. You likely have the 2nd gen.

The easiest way to tell, is the back glass of your canopy. Does the side of the back glass follow the angle of the canopy, or does it have a shallower angle? The 1st gen rear glass does not match the canopy angle.

Edit: below is a quote of a first gen. Look at the sides of the back glass...

Damn I thought I had a gen1 but I think I would have noticed such an eye sore as that. I’ll have to double check though to be sure. I think the only change I’d even appreciate on my build is the pass through cab brake light window.

You know I had a leak going through a heavy down pour back during thanksgiving on our trip and I couldn’t tell exactly where it was coming in at- assumed the vent at first even though the drip line didn’t matchup. I’ll have to check this instead

It was with the Gen 3 and if you pushed on the small windows on the windoors they would pop open, even if locked.

Pic Detail: The small windows are not shown in the earlier model picture above... (they are there in my cap).

There is indeed more glass area in the newer version (lower pic) - However, I believe that the translucent part of the window is pretty much the same. (In the new one there is frame material blocking out 'the view' on the lower part of the glass...)

I like the metal frame element on the lower part of the glass. It is simply a better design. Aesthetically AND practically. - It camouflages the latches; otherwise they look HUGE in the middle of the glass... (A bit of an eyesore)

Also, If you are going to ding the glass with something while loading or unloading it will be right on that lower edge. Being tempered glass, a ding on the edge may not react in the best way... (I would protect that somehow if I had one of these.)

Still - the smartCap is the best looking / working cap in my opinion. - If I had one change to suggest to the team (aside from the imminently shipping* new fangled inside-opening latches) would be a hinged front glass pane. Simply for ease of cleaning... I cannot get my arm in the gap as it is.

    * "imminently shipping" is my own hopeful editorial addition. I know nothing more than has been posted above.
