Yeah I could only really do it if I rode way out for an Iron Butt ride and somehow managed to fit in stopping for pictures with signs along the way.

Also, Calfornia has tons of tiny unincorporated communities that wouldn't show up in Wikipedia, but the problem is finding them. Also I don't know if those are allowed in the rules.

Extend your search criteria to include counties, boroughs, and townships if your state has them. In PA I live in York County but that is divided into multiple townships and boroughs. Provided they have some form of government office building and it has sign it should count. Just near me all in one day I have North York Borough, East Manchester Township, West Manchester Township, West York Borough, North Hopewell Township, East Hopewell Township, East Prospect, North Codorus Township. Now I'm not sure yet if all of these have a qualifying sign but I'm pretty sure half or more will.

GLMC has a discussion board you can join that may help clarify some issues that could be more clear than the rules might lead you to think.

I didn't realize just how differently those states are set up compared to PA. You guys really are at a disadvantage in this. I'd love to see you guys get to play but this theme might be a bitch for you. I've located 99 waypoints so far in Basecamp just in PA, MD, OH, VA, and WV and I'm not done looking. I can get the WV state welcome sign in about 90 minutes or less from my home in PA and in early May there is a FJR forum event being held in Marietta, OH so I can snag some out there and another FJR meet will happen in September and is in planning for NC so I'll be plotting some stops down there.

You can probably grab a few on our ride around PA too... I can think of a handful of towns off top of my head but not sure where all the signs are located

That will depend on timing. On that ride getting the IBA ride in is the priority and especially with it being your first one. I won't risk failing a cert ride just to snag a couple of points on a different event. Back in June when I rode to MI for a Saddlesore and Bun Burner ride I rode straight past some murals and while it pained me to skip them I stuck with my original plan.

Yep, no townships or anything. If I were to join, I’d basically have to snag every single city that @spencermarkd listed, and then would have to hope unincorporated counties are allowed and try and find a few more to get to the 20 points. I wish I had known about this last year and done the murals.

I had posted last years event and that was how @spencermarkd got suckered in. :bananadance: As soon as Team Strange announce their Grand Tour for this year I will post the link for that event. They always put on a good event and the finishers get a really cool enameled pin. T-shirts are offered for sale for their events. I've done their "Love & Merci" tour and learned a lot of history doing it. States of Confusion was another fun one. Looking for towns named after states and certain "state" colleges.

Good point, makes sense to stay the course when you're up against the clock...

I need to get a few things before then, started off by ordering a set of Pilot Road 6 tires that just came in. I finally heard back my 701 is ready so hoping third time is a charm and the oil leak is fixed. Need to pick the 701 up and get the tires mounted on the 1290 in the next few days.

Also need to buy a communicator and figure out what seat I want. Going to give Seth a call and get a quote. If it's really pricey I'll just get the KTM ergo seat. Rain gear is another thing, probably go with Frogg Toggs that you recommended.

For communicator I like the Cardo DMC mesh system, but it depends on who you ride with and what they already use.

I also tried out the Frogg Toggs yesterday and I’m impressed with them so far. I bought them on Amazon for less than what Revzilla sells them for.

Regarding com units, I'm still using the old Sena SMH-10. Had mine for over 10 years now and still haven't seen a need to upgrade. What I like about it is the simplicity. One "jog dial/button" on the side and one small "phone button" on the back. I can listen to my iPod, use my phone, and talk to Dianne when she's along as passenger. This unit can charge while in use a bug plus on long rides and is really water resistant as I've had mine in use during some serious downpours to no ill effect. Speakers and sound quality are okay but if your any sort of audiophile you would find them lacking. Increasingly Sena and Cardo are claiming "universal pairing" but IRL I've yet to see it happen. What I have done when riding with someone using a different unit is we just call each other using our phones through the com units. This actually increases range to virtually unlimited while not significantly using more battery.

I'm hoping if we plan on a late May or early June ride that rain gear will just be extra shit we each packed.

I shouldn't need anything too fancy... I'm solo majority of the time and don't listen to music when riding so a basic unit is probably good for me. I'll check out both Sena and Cardo, good knowing phone is a back up if they don't mesh well.

Glad to hear on the Frogg toggs, I like that they pack down small. And agreed hope they're a "just in case" item

I ended up with a fancy Cardo because my friend wanted one so we split a two pack when it went on sale. Like you I dont listen to music while riding, either, so it doesn’t get used a ton but I like that it works when I need it.

Try punctuation. It slows the thoughts down to manageable speeds. :boink::p

i will say this like i always do with people... i do not care about punctuation in a text or in a post... unless it is for something important that is job related or for other reasons.

Music makes my mood and riding style change too much. I suppose if I listened to some relaxing music it could work? Either way I just prefer to be 100% focused.

On longer rides I’ll put on a podcast or something in the background so it doesn’t get so monotonous but otherwise I prefer silence.
