75% of truck owners tow once a year or less (i.e. never). I fall into that category. Weeks may go by where there is nothing in the bed of my truck. I don't need a more "capable" truck.

    Anyone electric motor smart?
Tacoma and Tundra have the same 48hp motor and 1.87kW battery but Tacoma gets a 148lb-ft torque bump vs 104 for the Tundra. Toyota isn't doing the Hummer 11,500lb-ft torque game by including the trans/gear ratio multiplication but the there has to be some gear multiplication somewhere?

5’ bed won’t work, absolute zero interest in the XtraCab either.

I am looking at power numbers and capacities, not a bunch of options I don’t need or will use.

SR Tundra DC6.5 bed. 405 ft-lbs tq, 22 gal tank, 1800 lbs payload, 8000 lbs towing
No DCLB Tacoma SR, have to step to the SR5 to get it. 317 ft-lbs tq, 18 gal tank, 1380 lbs payload, 6400 lbs towing.

Yes the Tundra is better buy, at least for me it is. Wouldn’t considered the SR Tundra “stripped down” it comes with more standard features than I’ll use. Have a SR Tacoma now, and have all the safety bullshit turned off.

Attached the PDFs if you want to compare specs.

    It’s all about torque curves.

with one engine, the curve is the curve. But when you add in a second that has a different curve, than it isn’t a max gas + max elec = max overall.

Max torque is always at a stated rpm, in a hybrids case it’s wherever those two curves add up to the most.

with the tundra adding less with the same elec motor all that means is the twin turbo v6 has more torque than the single turbo i4

Why are you so attached to power numbers and capacities when a crosstrek will do what you want and you drive so slowly that even your v6 is too much power?

To expand, engineers can match the speed of the electric motor’s base speed (where torque falls off, the 11,500 point in the example graph below) to the ICE-side torque curve to get varying total torque curves

Torque curve of an electric motor looks something like this:

Those people probably shouldn’t own trucks. I tow once or twice a week. Bed is full of stuff currently, and so is my wife’s truck.

I could make a Subaru Forester or Outback work though, it would be tight however. Probably need to use one of those roof boxes to fit it all.

You say your current Tacoma has plenty of power, so you don't need the extra power in the Tundra.
The SR Tundra you quote has the 22gal tank which only gives slightly more range than the more fuel efficient Tacoma with 18gal.
You don't want a Tacoma double cab but a Tundra double cab doors are basically the same size and open the same direction (i know you prefer the old xtra cab suicide doors).
"At that price I'm getting a full-size". That price is $2,500 less. If it was 5K less would you say the same thing? 10K less?

Don’t like 5’ beds, XtraCab doesn’t have access doors.

Don’t really want a DCLB Tacoma either, it would be a compromise since they killed the AC. Think at that point might as well buy a DC6.5 Tundra, since it isn’t all that much bigger, plus you get more capacities and power as a bonus.

DC Tacoma doors are the same as DC Tundra doors! You're paying $2,500 for that bonus power you said you don't need because even your 3g has more power than you need.

It does. Would give my wife my current truck when I get a new one.

“At that price ($55K) I would get a full-size” what I didn’t say and was implied by the post of that Tundra SR, would save myself $10K and get the base SR Tundra instead, seems like the better deal all the way around. You guys may not think that though. It is obvious that your reasoning is different than mine. As I said before to ad-nauseam looking at campers too, so that comes into play when considering a vehicle. Haven’t really decided on what camper to get, so vehicle choices vary.
