Translation: switchback led headlights in oem housing. White until the turn signal is activated then amber for that. Hyper flashing when using one, but normal when using hazards. Yes?

Here's a recent response I have on another thread about Hyper flashing. The conversation was around license plate lights, but this mostly applies

I've had 4 sets of LEDS on my 2022 license plate lights, after throwing in LED headlights, meso stsge 1.5 LED tail lights, upgraded all interior to LED, fog lights, side mirror LEDs, and even added vLEDs for foot well lighting (also have anytime backup/ front camera, anytime 400w, arb air compressor, sub + amp, factory LED bed lights and third brake light) ... only issues I've had are license plate lights. Damn things are FINICKY. Here are 3 things I've learned:

    1) DO NOT "test" the license plate LED lights during install. Install both with the truck off. Then test the lights. If one or both don't light, turn the truck back off and repeat install by flipping one or both. Essentially, don't install one and turn the truck on.

    2) turn your DRL's/ auto light/ headlights off during the car wash! Idk what it is, but the license plate lights don't hold up to pressure. And don't turn them back on again until dry. Essentially, be a ghost in the car wash (I only have ever used touch less, so higher pressure?).

    3) don't buy tacoma beast LED's. They warrantied my lights 3 of the 4 times. I could've got another warranty but they just don't last so i didn't shoot for a 4th. I'm currently trying LasFit LED's (which I have for headlights and fog and they're holding up 1.5yr+). Jury is still out but I think the first 2 points are more important; in order.

Bonus 4) harbor freight extended needle nose 45° for replacement. Maybe I'll make a YT if these next ones fail and I have to replace them a 5th time :anonymous:

I have had no Hyper flashing with all these LEDs installed however. Seems hit or miss for some people. I think the "testing" one during install (without the second installed) is what causes issues for most

What @Squirt said. Though in third gen, I think the flash rate is controlled by the BCM. Which means there's no flasher relay to swap.

But it seems this YouTuber makes some plug-and-play ressistor harness for a number of models, including the

I have a pair installed on my Civic and they're working fine.

If those Alla bulbs have a built-in ressistors, you're better off with LEDs without them from a quality brand. If it's one thing LEDs and its circuits do not like, it's heat.

If I have to turn off lights in a carwash or they need to be replaced ... too much damned work.

Apparently buying OEM LED headlights and the harness from Dave REALLY IS better than LED-bulbs in the halogen housing.

And yes ... apparently the use of anything but "a single period (maybe) at the end of 20,000 characters" is not taught in schools anymore.

Turning them off in the car wash is in reference to the license plate lights. I've had no issues with any of my other LED's. I'm just cautious since I've replaced them 5 times now and it's somewhat of a pain to replace.

Like i said they work fine when the 4ways are on but not left/blinking i mean the taillight are LED so you would think they would work & the truck itself should have enough volts to run them

The bulb housing push out and there are two tabs on the front and rear. Trim tools work well.
My question is do you turn off your license plate lights when it rains?

I had the bulb burn out on the LED license plate light as well.

Instead of replacing the bulb, I just dropped some Morimoto lights into it.

    https://www.morimotohid.com/Morimoto-Tacoma-Tundra-XB-LED-License-Plate-Lights

Swapping out the whole unit was a lot easier than replacing the bulbs also.

It isn't a voltage issue, but it is an Ohms (resistance) issue. Especially if you've replaced the taillights with LEDs as well. A halogen light has a certain resistance to it. This resistance to the flow of electron is what causes the filament to heat up and glow, making light. LEDs don't work that way, so they have a much smaller resistance (hence their efficiency). The truck monitors for that resistance to determine if a bulb is burned out, and will let you know by hyper flashing. This used to be a mechanical side effect when actual relays were used, but now it is done electronically. Anyway, adding some resistance back into the circuit will correct the issue. Why only one side is doing it is more about these trucks being oddly sensitive at times. You can add a small resistor though on both sides, it won't hurt it. Just because the right side isn't doing it yet does not mean it won't do it later, trust me.

My hands don't fit where the two tabs are. I've been using long reach needle nose to be able to reach those tabs. I've broken 2 entire sets of trim tools trying to pop them out from the face.

Does rain have the same pressure as car washes?? Idk why people give me guff for turning off my lights in a car wash just to be cautious. Just my experience. Glad yours isn't the same

The issue is that most people do not have to turn off any lights to go through a carwash. Factory lights are sealed against water intrusion, and even license plate lights do not respond the the physical pressure of water jets by burning out.

My point is that adding lights I must turn off to perform ordinary tasks generally means something is broken.

Dude. Buddy. Bro. I have a disable in reverse for my plate lights, so that’s ridiculous. But disable in the car wash… c’mon wtf is going on here. If you live any where close to me, lemme help you pull the bulbs. I am not trying to be a dick or nothing, but you just don’t need to go through life shutting off your lights in the car wash.
Unless you get a switch, I just want to see the icon affiliated with plate light off, car wash on.
