Because they can. It’s nice to have heated seats, dual zone climate control, a good stereo, lumbar support, heated mirrors, integrated brake controller, etc.

Not everyone desires to have a modernized 1970s work truck. Not everyone is you.

I'm 43 , I want the options . I take my truck off road , through mud I also like playing in the snow . I use the terrain selection I use most of the shit plus I use it to go to the dump and bottle depot or load it up with soil . Maybe not all the time but when I have to I have the options

I’ve had a some flavor of Toyota truck in the garage since 1985. I took a brief diversion to Chevy for a couple of years, but I decided then I didn’t really need a full-size truck, though the short bed with the 350 V8 was fun.

These days I rarely need the bed. I could get by with my 4Runner. But today I’m filling up some gas cans so I’d rather do that with the truck.

    Trucks rule for stinky stuff.

Same. I’m 40, make enough money to have nice things, and want it. It’s wild to me that some people can’t understand why someone else might like features they don’t.

SwollenGoat, you are the outlier that thinks a SR has more options/convenience than needed. There's a reason all of those options are available - people want them. The towing and "capacities" are the least used features. The comfort and convenience options are the most/daily used features.

I posted about the BMW M2 vs M440i because even though the price is similar, they're very different. The "bigger" 440i is not "better". Saying a Tacoma OR is too expensive and a "bigger" Tundra SR is "better" is not the way most people look at cars/trucks.

People buy Tacomas because they're trendy? People buy Teslas/EVs because they are trendy. Ford sells the most trucks (F150), Chevy sells the most vehicles overall. Are those not "trends"?

People buying those off-road themed trucks are generally looking for the cool factor too but there’s something about all levels of Tacomas that people think have the cool fan boi factor. Maybe there are more younger Tacoma owners?

The blocking of people is really weird. Why are you even in this thread in the first place if you don’t like the discussion? There are thousands of other threads on this site.

I’ve never blocked anyone, but it’s possible that people want to cut through the chaff to find actual discussion about the 4g tacoma, instead of judgement about how nobody needs any feature not found on a 1975 international travelall.

I mean really…how much shit do you need? SR has power windows, locks, steering, mirrors. Heat, AC, adapted cruise control, traction control, infotainment screen, and bunch of other shit. Is that not enough!? Lol!

That is not how I looked at the M2 vs the M440i, one is more track oriented the other is more luxury aimed. And yes the Tundra SR is a much better choice for my needs over a Tacoma OR, get more truck for $10K less. Physical size isn’t much of a deciding factor, it does comes into play on certain aspects though, like deciding which TT to get. Which is more about what my wife wants than me. The OR is pointless why pay for a bunch of stuff I don’t need or will use? I will however use that extra 3 gallons of gas, and the 6.5 bed will haul three dirt bikes better, and tow better. And for a little bit more money I could grab the SR5 Tundra for $50K and get the 32 gallon tank, and more power, which means I could buy a bigger travel trailer. The $55K Tacoma would still fall short miserably in that area, and cost more. Doesn’t make any cents to me…

Yeah, people buy shit more to keep up with the Joneses than anything, practically is waaay down on the list. Not how I buy vehicles, why I cross shop Subarus to Super Duty’s, do not buy vehicles because they are trendy to the masses. Weigh the pros and cons of each for my needs/wants. No one one is making exactly what I want, so have to compromise. Toyota ruined the trim and cab figuration I like for the ‘24 MY, so have to look at other options. Maybe if they kept the ACLB, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

What’s stopping you? I had three personal vehicles there for awhile. But got tired of taking care of all them, decided one do-it-all vehicle is better.

Needs and wants are two different things. I don’t “need” even what my first gen has. But life choices are often made because of wants. You don’t need your truck, a camper, dirt bikes, etc. but you want them and therefore you own or consider owning them.

other people make a similar judgment for their own wants.

Because they NEED a 6’ bed but an Outback would do fine for their NEEDS. None of it makes consistent sense.

which is fine, but then they question other people’s desires
