I have a fairly complete rear axle, modified for spring-under-axle. Bought it thinking I'd do SUA, but probably never will, and now I have a welder so I don't really need this in my garage.

It has 3.73 gears, not sure of condition or miles but they looked fine to me, and the guy who sold it to me said it was in good condition. Comolete with factory e-locker and actuator assembly.

When I got it, I wire brushed it and coated it with POR15. Pulled 3rd member to check ratio, then resealed it. Replaced axle seals and o-rings too, but bearings, gears, and brakes are original.

Sorry the photo sucks, I'll dust it off soon.

Replaced seals and o-rings when I had it open...

Includes the metal brake lines and various brackets, not currently attached. Has about 3' of e-brake tube, cable is probably cut. Two extra (used) drums if you want them. Has a quart or two of new oil, whatever was leftover from last gear oil change.

Eagle Rock area. Asking 600. Then 500. Now 450, and that's a deal. Local pickup cash only. I can help you get it in your truck bed, but only if you're a bit stronger than I am. It's heavy.

I'm sure OP already knows - the axle shafts are easy to remove and cut a good amount of weight, making it easier to load/move.

Is this the A04B that I've been looking for?

I got a 2006 TRD Off Road and would like to keep the E-Locker.

I don't want to get your hopes up cause I'm in the midwest. But if it is I may come pick it up.

Not sure about the code, but yes it has the factory e-locker with actuator and wiring harness.

I got the brake lines reinstalled on it last night but I forgot to take a picture! Will touch up paint where the jackstands scraped up the paint, then take better photos this weekend.

    Man damn so tempted....

What's the deal with the SUA - Spring Under Axle???

Can I still use this for the TRD Off Road style which would be spring over axle? I'm not sure whats the difference?

Yes, the axle is modified for attachment of the spring below the tube. It will not bolt up to stock or most aftermarket leafs, which go over the tube. It is still a Tacoma axle, the only difference is that someone cut off the original spring perches, and welded new ones on the bottom instead of the top. They also welded little strike plates on top, to engage the bump stops at the uptravel limit. To use it with normal springs you'd have to cut off the undermount perches and weld on normal ones.

I'm really not an expert here, but here is my understanding. With the leafs on top of the axle, there is very limited uptravel, before the leafs hit the bump stops. You can get aftermarket leafs with more lift, but they are much thicker, so you don't gain very much uptravel. If you move the leafs below the axle, now the axle tube can move further upwards before it hit the bumps, so you get as uptravel both the entire amount of your lift, plus the thickness of the old springs. This is supposedly the best option for maximizing articulation and uptravel, before you go to an entirely different suspension geometry e.g. with coil springs and links. Whatever those are. Plus, now the springs aren't going to be inverted, even at full stuff. Apparently it is bad to have your leaf springs bend backwards, maybe they will break or explode, I don't know. I am currently towing a trailer, my springs are bent the wrong way and they haven't exploded. It is definitely not a very good ride though.

When I bought this, my truck had aftermarket leaf packs for 3" of lift, but I always had too much stuff in the bed, so the springs were always bent backwards and the bump stops were squished. It did not work very well. I decided that I should get new springs that went under the axle instead of over it, and I saw this SUA axle for sale, so I bought it.

But then there was a pandemic and I didn't have enough money to buy the undermount springs for this axle. Since then I took some stuff out of the bed, so it isn't always riding on bump stops. It turns out that's good enough for me, and I will probably never change to SUA, and in any case, I need to free up some garage space so I can buy more stuff for projects I'll eventually abandon.

Updating with some photos, from 2020 when I opened the axle and repainted it:

Did you ever check it for straightness? Unfortunately, a lot of these get sold because they’re bent, and the seller doesn’t disclose it, because it is almost impossible to check while fully assembled.

This here is a smoking deal tho, just the locker pumpkin should go for 2x that on flea bay

Good point... no, I don't know if it's bent, I never ran it. Not even sure how to check. It was sold to me as a fully serviceable axle, and I certainly didn't bend it out of alignment by ignoring it in my garage for several years. But I am the kind of schmuck that will trust whatever the seller says. So I suppose it comes down to the honesty of prior ownership, and I can't vouch for that.

I can take it apart and post photos of specific components or areas... but I don't have a coordinate measuring machine or any other way to confirm its precise geometry.

Buyer beware, this could be a bent axle with bad gears, I wouldn't know the difference. It has all the axle parts and seems to spin like an axle should. Certainly has a nice coat of paint, at least, and did I mention, it also doubles as a boat anchor? Your chiropractor definitely wants you to buy this!

If you spin the axle on one side, and the other turns smoothly in opposition, that is a good sign. If it assembles, and disassembles easily and without force (assuming the splines are lined up of course), then it is *probably not bent, or at least straight enough to not cause issues.

It is checked for straightness with an alignment rod thru the naked housing. Only specialty shops have it. I’ve done quick and dirty checks (for buying just housings) by looking through end to end (only tells if severely bent) and also hanging the housing vertical and dangling a bolt on a string through.

    Update: SOLD!

Unfortunately we couldn't fit the G650ER on his trailer, guess I'll just keep it as a daily.
