Good afternoon everybody.

Up and on the go early this morning for a retired LE firearms qualification. Was a fun morning with the rest of the old guys. Coffee and gunpowder are a great way to start the day.

I guess I found the reason for my summons.

As long as your ujoints are good and tight then we can move forward.
All your tires must be the same circumference within 1/2”
Moving from 2wd to 4wd requires no pressure on the drivetrain to allow the “wait springs” to engage the collars .If there is no pressure and the collars are lined up, it goes in.

if it clunks coming out it means there was tension in the drivetrain.
If you turned a corner and then tried to disconnect, when it did you would think the ft diff is coming out through the roof.
I always switch while moving and in neutral while straight for a bit.
Clunk going in means all rotating sync parts are not equal so parts have to catch up.
For me, I run my 4wd high once a week.
4lo once a month.
I have no “clunks” per say..
Myself, with 147k, I’d be working that weekly before something got real hard to move
from now on.
I would check the circumferences of your tires first..
Use it or lose it cause at some point. Your gonna….

Its been in and out of 4wd many times since September and since I put the studded tires on in early December. The psi are all within 2-3 psi of each other. Never had it do this with the tire circumference but have seen the posts about that. Its a possibility since 2 tires are probably 50% and 2 are new. I'll try moving them around when it warms up and see if that helps any. Can also then get under the truck and make sure no leaks. Everything is a sheet of road muck and ice right now. On the way to -27 tonight and tomorrow. So nothing is getting done outside until Tuesday or Wednesday when we get back above 0.
Would any of that make it feel like the front tire is flat when in 4hi only?
Appreciate the advice.

 

If you have two tires 50%
THAT IS YOUR PROBLEM.
YOU NEED TO REPLACE ALL 4 TIRES AT THE SAME TIME.
It will never be right until you do..

You are straining the 4wd system.
Axles trying to catch up with each other.
Lots of weird noises and feelings can happen..

 

Crud, Was afraid you'd say that. Wanted a different winter tire but they are backordered till spring. And didn't have enough money lying around. Guess I'll be picking up some extra shifts. Wonder why it took a month to surface though.
