Manual, still loving it

Dad had an Xterra Pro-4X with the 6MT. The 4 liter paired with that transmission made it about as much fun as a 4x4 could get. It was a pleasure to shift and the V6 felt more powerful than the published numbers.

 

Agreed. It came with 3.69 gears and I regeared it to 4.56. That thing had ridiculous torque with that setup.

 

Quite happy with mine. I don't know if I would even consider an auto at this point. That opinion keeps me in a limited market. The salesman thought that the truck was an oddball, Offroad access cab manual. He said he thought it might be hard to sell if I decide that I don't want a manual. I told him not to worry. Lol.

Same story…I have British wife (Scotland roots) who never learned to drive in England. It’s too bloody expensive…she says.

We tried her learning on a 1993 Isuzu Rodeo/5 speed but that did not work out.

So it’s been “Automatics” since 1996.

I want her to be able to drive my vehicle so hence the AT.

If I ever get a manual, it would be a sports car.

Yeah, it can be a midlife crisis but as long as I don’t get a convertible, it would be Ok. lol

 

My 2 door Bronco Badlands non sasquatch with manual feels like a sports car compared to most trucks and SUV’s I’ve driven. I’m surprised how hard I can push it into corners and it still feels stable. Mine doesn’t even have the rear sway bar they added to later models. One of the lighter Bronco Base or Big Bend 2 door models with the manual and 4.46 gears and smaller tires should be very sporty, those are ~400 pounds lighter than mine due to smaller tires, smaller front axle, and less skid plates. The top panels come off, but it’s still a body on frame vehicle.

 

A bit. But for a Jeep, I would choose a 2-door Wrangler over the Gladiator. And for a pickup truck, I chose the Tacoma over the Gladiator.

 

I always loved manual transmission vehicles even as a little kid when I'd go to the bathroom I'd use the plunger as a stick shift and when I was lookin for a used taco I found a 2012 TRD sport 4x4 double cab in manual and still love driving it, the sprint booster i added makes it more enjoyable! !

 

I've been driving for 55 years and have never owned anything that didn't have a manual transmission. Today, there are portable battery packs if your battery dies in the wilderness. Not so back in the day. I've "jump started" vehicles several times. No way to do that with an automatic that I am aware of.

 

my wife always was on me that I need at AT so she can drive it. One 3rd gen taco 6MT and a caddy 5BW 6MT later maybe I should get something else with an auto

 

2017 Sport DCSB MT - love driving it daily! Only ~87k and many smiles per mile

 

I test drove a 2 door model back when I had a Bronco on order and I was really impressed with how that car felt to drive and the granny gear is super fun to use. To me, the shifting action felt very BMW, for better and worse, which makes sense considering Getrag is one of their main transmission suppliers.

Is yours making the noises though? I know there's a TSB on it, but I'm surprised there isn't a recall yet considering how many B6G folks are reporting it.

I also have the SB and love it with my manual. I am curious how it would feel with the accumulator delete.

But love driving the truck with MT. So fun running through gears.

 

I’ve driven one that has its accumulator deleted back to back with mine that doesn’t have its accumulator deleted.

You get more feel with the clutch. It doesn’t feel as isolated.

 

Good on ya. I've had 6 Jeeps, a Suzuki Sammy and a 67 Nova; all manuals.

I've also been on 6 different EJS, with 3 different vehicles.......and found the manual in the JKRU to be shit on the rocks.

Still love driving a manual, but have to be honest......after 37 years of driving nothing but manuals I'm absolutely LOVING my DCLB automatic, especially towing off-road with my OTT tune.

I was surprised that the manual (2017) still allows revving the engine while the brake pedal is pushed which enables heal and toe downshifts. Great fun!

 

I’ve only had two automatics; a 2nd gen taco, and my current 3rd gen taco. The manuals were hard to find, let alone justifying the extra cost, so I passed on looking for one. The transmission in the 3rd gen is just so lacking, anytime I merge or whatever, I’m just wishing I can drop a few gears on the fly.

Looking forward to getting back into it with the 4th gen in a few years, tbh

 

Got my 2020 Sport MT little over a year ago.... BEST PURCHASE EVER!!! Just had convo with my brother who is looking for a truck also, but couldn't believe I bought a manual. I told him the Manual was the reason for the purchase... lol.

 

The Manuals cost less though, no need to justify anything extra.
