Sand washes, Arizona is full of them. Did the grey wire mod in my 1st Gen. It was awesome.

I feel the article was pretty honest about these things and that is what I liked about it. Definitely some areas where the GM's do better but honestly who is taking their pickup truck to the drag race track? I'd like my 3rd gen to go up hills and pass trucks at speed on the highway better, but I have never once wished I could shave a second off my 0-60 speed in my pickup truck. I think the fatter torque curve will be such a huge improvement. I think they improved in all the areas that matter the most to most truck buyers. Is it worth the price??? I dunno

... and I am not a huge off-roader but the sway-bar disconnect is super-cool. As far as the locking diff, it would be nice to allow that in 4Hi - but I don't get why you would want that in 2WD. Maybe I need to understand wheeling more to get why that would be helpful.

I was also intrigued by the article's gripe that there was no automatic AWD transfer case. Is that a thing in other trucks? I would think that would take away from the robustness of the current 4WD setup.

Not necessarily drag race but having more power is a great thing. Power has been the #1 complaint in Tacomas since the first gen. Yes it seems better than the turd gen. But so is the competition … which it also fell behind on

Not for me me...I got a weekend toy for power/speed....low geared manual in the 3rd gen zero complaints from me...I'll wait for the hybrid version if power in a utility vehicle/truck is your thing....jmho

Since I can’t imagine a scenario in which I might be drag racing a Chevy Colorado, I doubt I would ever even notice that one second. This truck is going to have plenty of get up and go. I’m sure it will be enough for me. I don’t need to compare every single thing to the other guys.

That $44K option has a solid rear window and manual seat, a configuration that nobody would buy and which is $5K more than the 2023 with the power seat and power rear window.

Nice, but I really can't take most of the legacy auto journals seriously. Especially after Motor Trend names the new Chevy Blazer EV the "Car of the Year" even though it had not seen significant production and GM had to immediately put a stop-sale on it because the cars kept randomly dying. They are just paid ads for automakers. I'd rather hear a review from an independent YouTuber.

It's ok to compare e.g. mid trim Taco to base Tundra. If both fit the needs and wants, then it's fair game. Maybe you are choosing between rib eye and lobster and for dinner, good choices and they are not alike. I was excited for the 4th gen, but the pricing put a dent in that, partly because the price gap to full size has shrunk, and also the price has gone beyond midsize competitors. Plus the new Tacotoy is not discounted, and full size are under MSRP, further shrinking the gap. Everyone has their priorities, we are not alike. I am trending towards used full size. YMMV.

    Lots to come
A configuration YOU wouldn't buy. But you aren't every tacoma buyer. You can blame Toyota for hiding options like those in a $9k option package.

    We are blaming Toyota lol.

They weren't hidden in a 9k package before, they were base level options for a TRD. 9k for stuff that is part of a $1000 package at GM and Ford seems like a stretch.

44k for no power and a tiny screen seems like a hell of a deal...

It’s crazy. It isn’t just trucks. It is the entire auto industry.

Trimflation and higher prices on vehicles that were already more expensive because they are equipped with more options is why manufacturers saw record profits? Not the auto workers doing their job, nothing against the AW who also benefited from their employer implementing Trimflation?

I am an avid offroader (Jeep, don't hate), sway bar disconnect pays large dividends on solid front axle vehicles and only offers a minor benefit from IFS (independent front suspension). This is due to limited articulation of IFS.

The problem with rear lock in 2H is that it can be very dangerous on the street in snow/icy conditions, particularly on a crowned road. Having 1 rear wheel free will help keep the rear tracking straight. In Jeeps, you can only lock in 4H but I would argue on the street, is still not a good idea unless stuck or playing.

Several manufacturers (Jeep, Chevy/GM) offer 4-wheel that has an all-wheel mode. The benefit is you can drive 2H without engaging the front drive components. Put in 4-wheel when needed, or but in AWD, and let the computers figure it out. AWD is for great for those who just want to get in and drive.

I believe all current 1/2 ton GM trucks have selectable all time 4wd if equipped with 4x4. Even on older gens and HD.

Toyota definitely isn’t the worst offender, but they still will charge north of $20,000 on some of their vehicles for essentially fake leather, some exterior trim, wheels, and some tech that may or may not be completely outdated in 5 years.
