4R is only popular with 4R fans, the 5th gen has been in production for 15 years that's why you see as many as you do. Yearly production numbers are not that high. The LC would fill the segment nicley, it's the same vehicle. People would like the 6G 4R if there is one. I don't think anyone would leave Toyota if there wasn't a new or current 4R available.

I also missed that the ZR2 has a rear seat arm rest and rear A/C vents. That's of interest to some but I rarely have more than one passenger so no big deal for me.

I also missed that the Bison has rugged rear leaf springs while the Pro has unproven coil springs.

But more importantly, the Pro has a hood scoop.

Here is a screen grab of 4Runner sales (not sure why June didn't report sales). I'm really surprised how low they are. But then compare it to Tahoe and their sales never exceed 10,000 in a month.

It's funny how important some features are to people and useless to others. I'm not even knocking those either, I find LED lights v halogen to be important. Others don't give 2 shits. ACC is a feature I would love, but not needed.

Since it sounds like the new 4R will have the same powertrain as the Tacoma, they will probably use the exact same interior too. Tundra and Sequoia used to have different interiors but now they are the same. Recycling the powertrain and interior along with "tngfa" means design and testing for a "new" 4R will be minimal. No reason not to offer it. Sales will be much higher than the Sequoia and they still offer that.

    Yes. Exactly.

The US would go back into Vietnam to try again before the 6G 'Runner would get a manny.

They probably will but I haven't seen a 2024 Tacoma on the road yet. Toyota knows it isn't a sales leader, they seem to be seeing where the market goes for BOF SUV in NA.

Ivan is Toyota legend, don’t have to watch racing to know that. Even had his truck in the 2024 Tacoma ads. The classic yellow, orange and red Toyota stripes are from racing. Every Toyota fan should know that. Toyota uses what they learned in racing into their street trucks, Pros would exist without it.

I don’t watch sports and much racing either, but used to do some desert moto racing myself, plus the dirt bike clubs I belonged to put them on. One of the reasons I moved to AZ from PA was to be closer to Baja. Reading 4WD magazines growing up about the Baja 1000 is what got me into racing and Toyotas.

There were several arcades and pizza joints that had it growing up. Recently there was a retro arcade here that also had it, went there a few times to relive the past, took my gamer niece to show her what “real” videos were like. Lol! Unfortunately they didn’t survive the pandemic. They had 250+ games.

No better way to honor your idol than to buy the truck he inspired.

Would just build a race truck instead, as you can’t wheel a Pro very hard without breaking it. Think they are for posers. All the guys I know who race, have normal low-key daily’s.

The key word there is speculating. Who are all of these drivers that will actually buy a manual 4 runner?

That’s the thing too, Toyota will only put the manual in certain packages. I wanted a manual but couldn’t get in the ACLB SR or OR, only the Sport. Now with the ‘24s can’t get in the DCLB at all or ever. There are people who want them but can’t because they don’t want to give up other options.

Imagine the 4Runner will be the same, probably only offer it in the most expensive trim.

My wife drives a manual, talk about an even rarer bird. Would she buy a manual 4Runner, hard to say.

I would buy one, I'm sure all the 4Runner buyers who bought a Bronco or Wrangler MT would also switch back.
