New shortblock is 3k I dont believe the cylinder walls can be fixed or atleast in the threads where they do their own engine work they get new short blocks.

Toyota doesn’t sell long blocks or “new engines”. You can buy a short block for 3.5K. But you’ll be reusing heads, chain, etc unless you buy all those new too.

Don’t buy heads from Toyota. Look at Monkey Wrench Racing. Used them quite a few times on other builds. Their 3.5 head selection and options are numerous. You name it they do it.

Someone was selling a new take out engine for like $6k here. I believe he was in Florida. Removing for a diesel swap……may be an option for you.

I didn't read [maybe I missed it] if you pulled an oil sample and had it tested but every time I look at the discoloration inside, I don't think the oil was quality or someone [dealer tech] wasn't changing the filter. Modern quality oil is pretty darn good, especially a name brand synthetic, and for a synthetic to do that, it either is poor quality, wasn't changed or the filter wasn't even if they say they did.

Could any oil test determine which brand of oil ?

No, but inferences can be drawn; Mobil1 uses a slightly different additive package than say, Castrol Edge.

Here we go. Just looked at Monkey Wrench Racing and for $900 they will port OEM heads. Any idea how the 2GR-FKS will react to port work? Will the cam and computer keep up?

I have done this on two vehicles and one of them (5.0 Mustang) saw results, and another (1980s Mercedes) saw zero gains.

I still think really cheap oil had something to do with it.

Oem head is about $1100. No reason to experiment

I think I'll loop in the dealer and see where it goes, pretty clear I think that this has to with the oil.

Best of luck with that…….don’t think you will get very far with that though. Certainly since you’ve disassembled

    They won’t care.
They will tell you it’s normal for an engine with that mileage.
It’s not. But it will get you out of their shop, and on to the next customer.

You can stop in, but you’ll be wasting your time.

Sure, they will. If you got money to spend with them.

    Seriously,
    No. Why would they?
    You’re out of warranty.

Because it's likely this was a fault of their dealer.

So, prove it. (That’s going to cost you more than an engine)

You’re probably 1 of 10,000 customers. The rest of who, aren’t complaining about not getting an oil change.
You are also 110k out of warranty.

I am not siding with Toyota here. So don’t take it that way.
If placing fault on Toyota is the route you wish to take. It’s going to be an expensive uphill battle.

Not worth my time. I’d settle for being pissed off and not using their service department again.
    Fix it and move on.
