I need some assistance with wiring. I replaced my seatcovers and installed seat warmers. Sure wish I could figure out the hooking them part of the program. Would feel better about offroad adventures if we could call for help or render aid as needed.

I like the Idea of a group get-together. I have a mounted Wouxun KG-1000G, and Wouxun KG-905G handheld. I'm not a super pro but have a very good understanding on how it all works. I am more than happy to help anyone out.

The two most important rules of radios are-

    Correct wire and fuse sizing
Wire power direct to the battery.

The fuse protects the wire, not the radio. Most electrical fires are caused by too small of wire, and too big of a fuse or no fuse.

Tying directing to the battery will all but eliminate any interference. With all the LEDs and computers needed in modern vehicles, there is plenty of opportunity to pickup interference.

Plus, it’s nice to be able to use the radio with the truck off.

This may be a dumb question, but...

If you have a group of people with just basic biatch baofengs, and 1 truck set up with a bigger antenna, is there a way to make that truck be a repeater for the handhelds?

EG Person A is far enough away from person B that the handheld wouldn't reach them, but since they are both within the range of the "base station" they can hear each other?

The "repeater truck" would need radios that can do repeater functions. So my kg-1000g can do it but would need two slaved together to be a single repeater. One radio would do receiving and the other transmitting.

Sorry should have been more specific...

    Person A has Baofeng
Truck has radio that can do repeater
    Person B has Baofeng

So then A>B would be possible with the Truck serving as a repeater?

In that scenario, yes that'd work. Be best if repeater truck was parked in a high spot.

That time of year is coming and I have to actually play in the snow. I can never find a forest road that is open…maybe I am not looking in the right places?
Can anyone recommend any good trails that are open when it snows?

Stoneman lake road is usually open and all the idiots go there to get stuck when i17 shuts down. You can get a two-fer. Have fun and yank people out of the ditch. Most other forest roads and "trails" in AZ close in the winter.

Like @Atl-atl said, up in flag they close most of the forest from December to April. Only place that stays open is the cinders.

Most of the trails up here near sunrise stay open all winter. Really just the main road that goes to big lake gets "closed" and I only say that cause they stop maintaining it. You can still go back if you want just dont expect help. All the trails near greer and greenspeak are good areas and I regularly do them during the winter.

Yes. The term is called cross band repeat. Not all mobile (vehicle) radios have the capability but a lot do.

    Edit: For ham radio

Kaibab typically does not close their roads, there are some pretty good loops south of williams and sycamore point is pretty awesome view in the snow. Stay off perkinsville road though :mudding:

Pretty decent details here. RB is great for Ham Repeaters but we are just starting to get the GMRS world uploaded into the database. Oddly enough, most of the ones that I've seen are closed systems. You have to be a dues paying club member for the privilege of using their repeaters. As a result a lot do not get listed.

That's hard on the repeater radio side.
Quite a few of the mobile radios will let you do cross band repeater functions where you come in on 440mhz and it repeats out on 144mhz..

That works well for Ham Operators but GMRS operators are limited to the GMRS 440 Channels and setting up a 440in and 440 out repeater on a mobile unit means you need two radios and some cables and duplexers and other miscellaneous equipment. Sooner or later, it just becomes easier to buy a GMRS repeater and install it in the truck.

Saw that shit on insta the other day and laughed my ass off. The audio is even better than the visual. The license plate is different in the one that I saw though, it said "ABV 5.0"
