The shut off via the door is for security reasons, but I understand it is annoying. One could go outside and manually start the vehicle, I know this is an inconvenience.

I will say this, idling for extended periods of time is not good for the engine and the catalyst system. This has to do with the vehicle running very rich and a slow warm up process. The ideal procedure is to start the vehicle and begin driving within a min or two. The faster the vehicle warms up the better, and this happens by driving it, not hard of course. Honestly, if you are in extreme temps you really should be using a block or oil / transmission pan heater. I would I put this on my oil and transmission pan if I lived in a climate that was super cold.

Pretty sure this is a pipe dream and installing one may cause some serious unintended side effects. I believe there was a guy on here who explored the entire electrical system and concluded several things.
One, bypassing it wouldn't allow the car to go into drive.
Two, you may end up bricking the ECU.
Not something I'd want to risk personally with an aftermarket product. If it does brick the ECU you're SOL from a warranty perspective and in for a very expensive repair.
That said, I'm curious to see how this company found a work around. Almost sounds too good to be true.

If the Toyota remote start system did not have this auto shutoff feature and trucks warming up were being stolen from driveways and parking lots, everyone here would be screaming bloody murder at Toyota for not designing it with the auto shutoff!

    No.

They'd be screaming at Toyota for not shutting the car down if you drive away without the keys inside the vehicle. Ya know, like every other vehicle. Remote start also doesn't work if the doors are unlocked, so there's that as well.

Worrying about the car shutting off when you open the door with remote start is silly, but no where near as silly as your statement.

    exactly!
just like the big GOV was expected to step in and keep urban ne'er do wells from stealing each other's already stolen Hyundai's and Kia's with stolen plates, expired temp tags, behind on payments, etc.

that was fun to watch. It was like the guy that called 911 to report someone stole his drugs.

If only there was a way to prevent the car from being stolen after autostart AND not shut off when the door is opened…
I wonder if all other manufacturers have any ideas on how to accomplish this?
Maybe shut the car off if the key isn’t in the ignition or the smart key isn’t inside the vehicle, and you depress the brake or clutch to shift into gear or something?

Have you guys never owned an autostart on anything but Toyota and Lexus?

Yes. In my 2020 Armada after remote start you get in with the key, press the brake and start button and the engine continues to run. Then you can put it in Drive and drive away.
If you try to take it out of park before pressing the brake and the start button the engine kills, even if you have the key in your pocket.

    crazy isn't it?
It's not a huge deal to me, but still the way the system is,,, is dumb. Even the biggest POS's out there had this problem solved 20+ year ago. My GF's father has an old Chevy Cavalier, and this is just how it works. So it still can't be driven away without the key.

Yeah, there's no argument that there are much better ways to skin this cat. And that the technology to accomplish this already exists. I guess we just have to put this one in the "it's better than nothing" file.
