You can buy the kits that come with the drill bit, tap, and screws. You can also buy small tubing at a hobby shop. Jb weld it to the base and put the car back together. Take the axle with the wheels you want to use. Cut the axle and put jb weld on the end and slide it into the tube. This way you can tuck the wheels in or have them stick out. Let me get a few cars my buddy made and post some picks.

Piggybacking off this, if the axles aren’t wide enough or too wide, I will split the axles with a drimmel and cut 1/16 brass tubing to the chassis width, add some metal hobby glue to the split axle. You have to drill the chassis out a bit for the tubing. Did this on the tooned Porsche, chassis was wide, wheels and axles were from the Toyo skyline wagon. The wagon has a narrow chassis.

Exactly what my buddy would do. This way you can tuck the wheels in or put them out past the fender

I don’t have any that are not put back together. This one has a totally different base than what came with the car but you can see the tubing he used. Also the wheels still spin.

Works great for opened wheel cars.

You can also put a small spacer to lower it. Cut the or file the base and you tuck the wheels in a bit.

The tubing from a hobby shop would be the axels correct? Also, when I’m there, are they actually packaged as 1/64 car axels?

edit……I saw it in the pic after I posted this

Not the actual axel. You can cut an original axel and slide them into the tube. I’ve never done it all my customs were made by a friend.

I get it now. Yeah I saw the picture of the tubing after I made my post. I think this is something I can do. When it comes to paint. I’m assuming pint stripper and model spray paint?

You can do it without painting it or he would just use rust-oleum or krylon.

Here’s one he cut up next to the original. Body was cut to fit the base and added real riders and decals.

Another one he made for me. Cut the body to fit the base. Don’t know if you can see in the pic base was from a custom Jeep. Added wheels, the blower and fuel tank.

@JuanitoBonito I think it was Jada that made a tubbed nova. Not sure what year nova it was but you might get away with just painting it.

Already thought of that. I have a coupe but they are 67 Novas (different body style) Miestro makes a pro street one too which I also have a couple of those. The one I won’t mess with. One of my favorite overall novas I have. Like an idiot I spent like r0 or 60 bucks for it on eBay. I had to win that auction lol. Never saw that model before and one have seen one since. That one went for over 100 bucks!! I’ll snap a pic in a few. It has those sponsor racing decals (like your bug painted on. It’s a sweet detailed car. Pic incoming…….
