    Hi Guys,

Was wondering if you could please help me diagnose the sound coming from my drive belt area. I have a 2001 4x4 Tacoma 3RZ-FE 2.7 L, manual transmission.

I thought the noise might of been my drive belts, so I replaced all 3 belts. Power Steering, Alternator, and Compressor belt. All the pulley's seems fine when I checked it as I replaced the belts.

It seems to only make the noise on cold start, and i notice the noise getting louder if I press on the gas or if i turn the steering wheel. Power steering fluid is full, might be old tho, but not sure if that matters. Once the engine is warm and I start to drive, the noise goes away.

    Any ideas?

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Theres a screen in the reservoir of the power steering (IIRC) that might be blocked. It is a common occurance.

I had the same issue, thought it was going to be a 30 dollar belt, turned out to be a 900 dollar rack and pinion.

I think that did the trick, I drained my old power steering fluid with a turkey baster, the bottom of the reservoir was gummy. Added more fluid, and haven't had that noise come back.

    Thanks!

    Canada Eh!
I guess in Las Vegas it doesnt really get cold, but up here in Canada my power steering is a bit louder on cold starts but quiets down after a few minutes of warming up.

Glad you got it figured out!

You may want to check the screen in the bottom of your reservoir. They tend to get gunked up.

I recently sucked out all the fluid and then drained out the rest right from the rack. Then ran some cheap stuff thru with seafoam, then sucked/drained it out and refilled with good stuff. I HOPE the screen is fine. I had seafoam in there for about 4 days.
