I did. I don't have first-hand knowledge, but a number of people here on TW say those locks (even with the remote lock) are very easily busted/defeated with a screwdriver. Once the lock is defeated, it's only 10-20 seconds to walk away with the tailgate without an additional device like this.

Well, not exactly today… Christmas break.

Swapped out the suspension for 6112/5160 and Icon RXT. Debating the new Falken AT4 in 33’s.

The anti theft device for your tailgate, I thought you were asking about it, I apologize

On the whole tailgate theft issue, I think that the perps want a quick steal. Open, unlatch, lift and gone. If they have to spend more than a few seconds getting the tailgate free, it's not worth it.

I used the hose clamp idea I saw earlier to make it impossible to get the gate off easily. If they really want it, they'll get it!

Call me ignorant but what do they want with my tailgate? Black market for them? Or Billy bro lift smashed his? What’s up with all this tailgate theft deterrent talk?

Yeah, I would say black market or just scrap metal. If something is easy to steal, someone out there will steal it. IMHO

To replace a damaged or missing one. Some need it for themselves, but I’m sure most of the time it’s to sell to someone who needs it. I had a ‘99 F150 and I always kept the tailgate locked when I didn’t need it open. One day I went to put something in the bed of the truck and I saw where someone had been prying in a couple spots in an attempt to steal it. I figure someone interrupted him and he bailed. If I hadn’t kept it locked I would have had to buy a new one. My next truck the tailgate locked with the doors. I can’t believe that newer Toyotas don’t have this standard. It shouldn’t be an option. It should be standard.

I'm looking at the remote tailgate lock mod. More of a convenience than anything else. When I lock my gate with the key from the fob, it feels like it might snap the key off. Anybody know if you can order or get a regular style key just to lock the tailgate?

I’ve never felt like that with mine. It doesn’t take much effort to lock or unlock mine. Maybe your lock could use some lock lube. I want to add the mod that allows me to lock/unlock it with the fob.

Looking good! Just do it, I think the 33’s are a good size for these trucks. Anything bigger would be best with a re-gear and 32’s just look too small with a lift. Just my .02

I think I’m in agreement. Currently on 265/75/16, so about a 31.6”. They’re “okay”, don’t look like I skipped leg day. But some 33’s would fill the well better. Falken just announced the AT4 in 33 C load. I’d like to avoid E rated for the taco, but even these new C load tires are like 58 lbs each.

Is this one basically plug and play?

I’m running Nitto Trail Grapplers that are E rated and they’re only 65 lbs. I have a full size spare and matching Pro Comp wheel I currently store in the bed until I get my high clearance rear bumper and swing-out. I like the E rating since the 10-ply sidewalls don’t bulge much even when aired down, and these things are super sticky on the steep rocky stuff.
