Internal damage to the Worm Gears. Im on my 3rd R&P for that issue.

I bet if you place a front wheel against a curb or parking block and turn into it to place a load on the R&P the steering wheel will either move back in place..or out

EDIT: I didn't catch that you have a Tundra Rack!!

You can still use the curb or parking block method to help diagnose where the play is

I'll try and do this. How would I look for internal worm gear play? Steering wheel turning, maybe clicking or creaking from inside the rack -- but no wheel movement>

I did buy the tundy rack used from another member, who said it was rebuilt if I remember correctly.. Maybe have Travis rebuild it if I can't track anything else down.

Rebuilt by some independent shop or from the source? Rebuilt by an independent shop can be questionable.

What you're looking for with the curb test is when creating a load on the R/P while under pressure and feeling a "pop" when the steering wheel snaps back into its place. Usually what happens if there's worn or damaged worm gear toothth is that assembly will skip a tooth when a front wheel hits a sharp edged bump or rock while on the trail.

No worries lol, I think you can get rubber or other non solid bushings for the tundras too.
Mine just have the solid offset ones so I didn’t have to redrill new holes.

    Couldn’t tell ya :/
As I started checking stuff off the list of possible culprits over the last few months, I’m thinking this may be it.

Did you mark the eccentric bushings to see if they are rotating?

your eccentric bushings are probably spinning. super common with those, which is why I prefer not to use them, but it's way more work.

I’ll try to get some video up against a wall or something Saturday.

I’m thinking this is it, or internal to the rack. Although that’s less likely as @Basikbiker does good work and I trust @Buttskevin21 !

I’ve torqued and checked them to be the oem Tacoma spec 92nm / 68ft-lbs in the past, should I go any more ?
    Tundra oem says 120nm / 89ft-lbs…

Anyone have a good pic of their front brake line setup? With the hydros I installed, I’m worried about the lines rubbing on them.

This is what I did; hydros and bypasses in there but not pictured.

SS line from HEL, this is in place of both the oem hard lines at the caliper and frame. not just the rubber soft line.
