Bruh! I lived on Maui for almost two years. It's beautiful, but I wouldn't pay for a flight back.

 

Guessing the stories about the locals sentiments towards outsiders are real?

 

Every place has positives and negatives. And it wouldn't be right to generalize about the population as a whole. I met a lot of really wonderful people there.

Also, there's no work. Unless you have a cousin.

 

Guess I should clarify. I'm aware that as a whole the population may not be the biggest fan of the generic tourists and what they bring or don't bring.

I've never met someone from any of the islands who was a jerk or rude. Always a joy to be around

I will say that not even once did I ever hear "haole" used in the affectionate, light hearted manner that I hear so many people talk about. I wasn't aware it was anything but a slur until I moved back to the mainland. YMMV obviously, and I'm not claiming to speak for how native Hawaiians view the word. It just wasn't used unless there was something about to happen or something had already happened.

I’ll look into it. Work is sometimes hard to get away from but I’ll definitely give it a look.
