My take on the i-FORCE Max Hybrid System

I am not sure they could fit a big enough electric motor into the space. Really you would need to look at how all the other plug in hybrids work and that is independent electric motors. Might be possible to get some front motors and pull the truck and then the engine could power the rear...or vice versa. It will be nice when Ford releases their specs for their PHEV ranger.

 

The big question is will these alleged solid state batteries ever go into production? What’s the delay?

 

Most people must not agree with you because I rarely see a max tundra on the road.

 

Oh please, I might be completely wrong here but using RAM anything in your argument is weak sauce. Anything they build is sure to be an instant classic of poor engineering meets worse build quality.

 

I don’t particularly like Ram as a manufacturer, but using the ice engine as a generator, and electric motors as the drive makes a lot of sense, more so than Toyota’s take on it. It is much like hybrid locomotives.

Yes I did. And it is like a hybrid locomotive. And there are plenty of parasitic losses in this system as well.

Nice! I wouldn’t even need gas most days except for the occasional long trip.
I will buy that for my next truck if it doesn’t cost $80K, which I’m sure it will.

Did you watch the Mike Sweers video too? There are some major differences why PHEV makes sense in their unibody vehicles than a ladder frame truck.

An electric skateboard(ish) chassis with a gas engine generator makes a better case for efficiency. Imagine if it wasn’t a Ram, you have to admit it is a better execution of hybrid tech, than what Toyota is doing. Need to take off the fan boy blinders. (mean that in the nicest way possible, coming from a long time Toyota fan boy)

 

I would never have to use gas for commuting. Did you see the payload and tow rating? Damn!

 

Whole point of a plug in hybrid, EV only mode. Why their Prime models sell like hotcakes. The Tacoma and Tundra hybrids are a bit of a let down. Buyers have been screaming for better fuel economy for decades, instead they focused on all out power instead. Very uncharacteristic for Toyota.

 

It would sometimes. There are a lot of conditions in daily driving that use very low amounts of power. When it needs more the ICE kicks in. It's a hybrid after all.

 

If it can’t do EV only mode, no point of plugging it in.

RAV4 Prime a much lighter vehicle, can barely manage 42 miles in EV only mode.
