Yea it depends on whether it’s an actual Cruiserhead, or just some curbstoner trying to make a buck.

Largely depends on labor if you want to pull the transmission to replace the output shaft and a few various items

Most people that go from Prerunner to 4x4 go the manual route IE manual hubs, and if they can't find the diff tube from a manual hub setup, they engage/modify their ADD actuator to remain in a 'fixed' setup

The 2003-04 people with auto's are the ones that find it hard to find donors for

Then there's the whole electric actuated or vacuum depending on what someone wants; 1995.5 to 2000 is vacuum whereas 2001 and up is electric if sticking with ADD

I hear you, but there’s only so many things that can be wrong on a vehicle, especially these simple 90s trucks.

    Yes and no

Yes because they're pretty basic so it just becomes a trial of diagnose, repair, and replace as needed

But no (as far as simple) because if you're not mechanically inclined, it can be very overwhelming (especially based on your responses to the most simplest of suggestions)

Ugh the negative temps are annoying. Koi pond line froze and started pumping the pond down overnight. Got some 2.25" pvc to temp fix it and now I have to bucket fill the pond cause hoses are all solid right now

So ideal scenario you get one that’s been lovingly gone through with OEM parts and the owner is just tired of it or looking to move on to a different platform. That was the idea when trading for my Tacoma.

At first, I thought it was a disaster, but most of the fixes have been pretty simple, like a bad ECT sensor and misadjusted slave cylinder.

    Definitely a great scenario

    OR

you get a great deal on something taking into consideration the needed fixes you address (based on your due diligence)

Never suggest doing a blind purchase for sure! And it's easy to just say no and walk away.

Good info. The truck in question is an 04. So electric actuated. Would probably need to be ADD. But I guess that just means an 03-04 donor is needed and should have all the parts and pieces.

I'm not up to speed on the specific 03-04 parts but I can say due to the drive by wire, 03-04 transmissions and ECM's are the hard-to-find items

Everything else would be interchangeable from 2001 and 2002 models in regards to the front diff and other misc items

You could even use the spindles on a Prerunner, but that'd require pressing out the axle hubs and bearings and pressing all new parts in for the cv axles

That sucks; how deep is the pond? Just a good half inch or so on top freezes right?

It's buried from ground level down two and a half feet. Usually about an inch and a half on top will freeze solid. Right now there's about 3 in because of the pumping down incident and it flowing on top. So I need to restore water till it touches the bottom of the ice now that I fixed the bubbler situation.

I'm not going too far down the rabbit hole but I think I know that the route would be an 03-04 donor, it's a crapshoot trying to pie e it together otherwise.
