    Two things I did today:

    1) cut a hole in the front panel of my case and 3d printed a fan guard insert to let my case finally breath a bit more. Haven't played any games yet to see how much difference it'll make, but I'm hoping I won't have to play with my side panel open anymore haha. It wasn't getting awful before, but it'd be a 15 or so degree drop when I'd open the side up so I knew it was a bit choked.

    and

    2) This one is stupid. A few years ago I started having issues in the winter with lower humidity, I'd stand up and my screen would flicker off and on, like my cable would lose it's ground or the monitor would lose power. It was the damndest thing. Tried different power strips, plugging directly into the wall, different displayport cable. Lots of stuff. Well moved, hadn't had the issue in a while, but it's been really cold and dry out and it started happening again today in the new house and it started driving me extra bonkers. Did some googling around and apparently the gas shocks combined with metal legs and no metal on metal connection to the top frame can cause a static build up and discharge with high EMI that'll flicker monitors. WHAT. Seriously stupid. So I took a piece of stainless steel safety wire and grounded my fabric, frame, and shock together and it's muuuuch better. Still a little bit of build up when I get up but hopefully if I remember to touch the metal before standing up it'll stay good. I can't believe how long it took me to figure it out.

I like the first thing you did; I need to switch cases but I'm too damn lazy.

The front of mine is enclosed, therefore I just run my cpu at stock clock while my gpu chokes

Pop off that front panel and fire up the plasma cutter, you'd be able to make it swiss cheese in no time

This was what mine looks like. Intake is at the rear and top of the case through a rad with front doing exhaust duty. Not the most efficient or conventional setup but with the case only came with an easily cleanable dust filter for the top, so I made it work.

Two 140's on top and a 120 in the rear pulling air in 2 140s in the front pushing out. Exhausts are at a lower RPM to try and avoid a negative air situation.

Can't pop off a "front" if there is no front to pop off :burp:

my bad, i'm used to most cases being able to pop the front and all sides off in one way or another. stick the whole thing on the table and let it rip :welder:

I bought my case way back, left it in the box for mooonths, then built it (past the return period)

Was only when I took it out the box that I realized I bought the wrong case

I figured I'd keep it and use it for a retro build whenever I get around to yanking the current guts out

Those sure do look pretty... all lit up like a Nevada whorehouse.
Not my thing any more than a flashy truck, but one does have to admire the bling.

    Im running a 7700k with 32gb of ddr4 at 24xx w/ a 1070 and a hybrid drive on a z270 still :D
Built it back in 6th grade. about 9/10 years ago lol. Was about as close to the shit as I thought I could get. the TI 10 series hadn't even come out yet.

Making changes to an m.2 SSD, adding two case fans, and swapping the 1070 for a 6700xt and upping to an 850 W PSU(all for only 450 thanks to used PSU and GPU locally, solid value for 450) . Figure that'll get me another 9 years of satisfaction gaming at 3440x1440. I don't need ULTRA MAX INFINITE blah blah settings. worst case in about 3-4 years I swap mobo CPU and Ram and leave the PSU, case, GPU, and all the fans as they are. Revolving door method?

Looked cooler with my old all white dual fan radiator liquid cooler on the CPU, but that water pump went out lol basic cooler master air cooler now. But this one PC, almost half my life...

6700XT has treated me well so far! Only thing I've had an issue with is most up to date GPU driver doesn't play well with Microsoft Office (Word). Rolling back the driver to a previous version seems to fix it all though. Does flawlessly in 1440p gaming at nearly max settings in most things. Its hard to beat (or at least was when I bought, at that current market's pricing) for a budget high performance build.

What's an RTX3080 go for anyway?

Getting an upgrade from my neighbor and I'll have a 3080 to sell :burp:

EVGA FTW so it's the card that uses 3x 8 pin connectors with its 420w power limit

Is updating drivers for AMD cards as easy as NVDA? GeForce experience and just hit “get latest drivers” is really nice

This is my first PC so I have no experience with NVIDIA, but I think if an idiot like myself can figure it out, so can you lol. I've always just gone to my GPU's website and downloaded drivers that way, but I think there is an app to make things easier.

    Yeah.
Yeah, you just install their Adrenaline software and it is just a button press. It has other stuff you can do to tune for specific games or uses.

I was lucky enough to pick up a RTX 4090 FE last fall and it would not fit in my Alienware R12 (Nor would its thermals/fans cool it)...so I decided to build my own. I had upgraded PCs in the past and built a crypto miner, but never built a PC from scratch. I did a lot of research, got a lot of stuff during black friday sales and everything turned out OK...booted up and only had a few minor Q-code errors. I used the extra wiring loom from my offroad lights to hide/neating up the wires. Runs perfect. CPU is 30C at idle and tops out at 80C under load.

I think the rebuild is working. Before AMD drivers finished installing there was random cutting out for 2-3 seconds. hasnt happened since. Guess I'll know once i get to gaming

I didn't realize how slow my old hybrid HDD SATA drive was...

I can actually download things at whatever internet speed/server speeds in a launcher will allow. This is amazing. Game that would've taken an hour on the old one I just did in 5 minutes...

I started buying for my build in mid-November. I figured all the Black Friday and other holiday sales saved me close to $400, maybe more if I did the same build now.
