    Thanks.
That was my dad's. (minus rail, red dot and holster). Purchased sometime in the mid to late 80's.
He had taken a liking to Tackleberry in Police Academy around that time.

It is heavy and not one for the hip, this one would be a handful in life or death scenarios with the longer 9.5” barrel, but it’s a good brush cutter in ambushes on whitetails and black bear with 240’s at 50 yards

It took me a long time to find one I liked.. I believe I started with a nylon chest holster, and it was so, so noisy..
simply rugged took about 3 months after sending them all the information. It fits really nice, not tight, not loose, and no snags.. I like the smaller lines and lighter weight of the Galco Kodiak, but the detail in the Celtic cross and basket weave from simply rugged is a piece of art. All the stamps are very precise with crisp registration and very uniform pressure, no light hits, and no double strikes.. likely be a heirloom.

I wish I had bought myself one of those years ago before they became so pricey.

Great looking revolver. Another Redhawk pushing me towards owning one. How is it at the range with the short barrel and loads on the hot side?

I’ve been looking at short barreled .44 mags because of this discussion. Smith 69 or 629 or Redhawk Alaskan. I’m usually a blued steel guy, but the stainless I’ve seen here is incredible. Just got offered a fair price on a used 629 5” today, but I passed on it to keep shopping. Great thread.

I like 44 mags and have owned a few. I’m not a fan however of the short barrel 44mags though. Years ago I owned a 44 mag S&W Mountain gun short barrel. I carried it while backpacking in grizzly country. It kicked like a mule. My first shot was right on target but due to the recoil getting the gun back on target quickly for rapid 2nd and subsequent shots was near impossible. And that’s a problem for all short barrel powerful guns like 44 mags. And when I used hot loads it was even worse. I currently have both a Taurus Tracker 4” and a 6.5” barrel. The 4” ain’t bad but when I’m packing in the wilderness I carry the 6.5” cause if I have to get off multiple shots accurately in an adrenaline pumping situation the 6.5” is the one I’m going with it’s my best bet. If at all possible try different 44’s (a lot of ranges rent guns) , your decision on a short barrel 44mag may get modified.

    I decided on a compromise. 5.5” IMG_0723.jpg
I think I’m going to change the grips to wood, but otherwise I’m going to leave it alone. It’s got a few nicks and scratches. I had planned to polish them out, but it’s just going to get more anyway, and the price was right.

I own the Alaskan .44 mag and recoil is intense. I use it on a chest holster for hiking, dog walking. My father in law owns the same gun with longer barrel and the accuracy is much improved.
