I use a food that is human grade (not Soilent Green human grade) called the Honest Kitchen. To be categorized as such, it goes through a crazy amount of checks (same, if not more strict guidelines as our food). However they have even had a recall because the same parsley supplier for people was providing parsley for them, and had a salmonella scare. No fault of the pet food manufacturer, but recalled just the same. There is a Netflix documentary called "Poisoned" that'll blow your mind on the foods we eat.

Salmonella is the common problem no matter what you feed. It's All about biology. Restaurants have salmonella outbreaks.
Mostly it comes from cleanliness if my sani-safe and culinary classes serve my memory correctly.

    e. coli and salmonella are the two biggies. There are a bunch of others depending whether it's meat, fish, or poultry. Bagged salads and other produce are often contaminated from the fields by animal feces and even tho they're cleaned, it makes it through.

‘Daisy Mae is on the left and Duke is on the right.
I lost Daisy 2 days after Xmas 3 years ago, she was creeping up on 16 years old.
I just lost Duke a little over a week ago. He was 13 years old. They may be gone, but never forgotten. I love them both.

They are so detail-oriented that they didn’t get the date correct. Probably nothing…

We were always happy with Science Diet for our dog until we had to switch him to a low fat food we get from our vet because of his pancreatitis.

This is what I saw a few days ago. Look if you like a type of food and your family members are healthy then by all means feed what you like.
Thanks @ian408 for your time looking this up and passing along the information.
