I just feel if you need to shovel your driveway for months. And need to scrape your windshield for months. Then a human shouldn't be living there. Rusted out vehicles. People dying because their heater in their 92 escort failed. I just don't see the benefit of living in freezing climates.

For the record. My dad's side of the family is from Michigan and I fully understand the landscape is beautiful during the spring and summer months.

Same. This winter has been tough because all the snow has come with hellacious wind. If it were just straight down snow with cold temps, I'd be fine. That bloody wind has teeth and bites to the bone.

I would say the same thing for hundred degree areas. May as well jump in a Volcano. People die because their AC fails too.

Boils down to this: Life is miserable. Pick your misery.

I vacationed in south Beach Florida for a week. In July. It was brutally hot. All I remember is thongs EVERYWHERE and beautiful women happy to be there. So I'd rather take hot then cold. Just me.

Option 3 - live in a place like California and have good weather year round, but then deal with questionable laws, crazy traffic, homelessness, crime, etc.

I still love California, though. Every time I get to split lanes or go for a ride in the mountains I'm thankful to live here.

Have you ever seen snow bunnies?

One of my exes used to get all confused about why I'd have the AC blasting out the dash vents when I'd pick her up.
"Why do you always have your AC going? It's freezing in here!" Always told her "Because it improves the scenery" and she didn't understand. After about the 4th or 5th time she asked "What do you mean improves the scenery?" I laughed and repeated the phrase while staring very pointedly at what I meant. Got an "Oh my gosh, Adam!" for that one.

Like I quoted, pick your misery. I'd rather have it be cold for a few months than deal with the downsides of CA. It's all about preferences and what you'd rather deal with. I don't deny the lovely parts of any of the places I don't live. I just weigh that against the not so great or downright shit stuff and make my decision.

What I make in WY is decent income, great schedule, and allows for more comfort/luxury. My job in CA would pay about 20-30% less, and even my current income wouldn't cut it in CA. It's simply too expensive.

Fully agree it's too expensive in CA. It's ridiculous and 90% don't make it. The turnover rate is crazy high for population.

But if you can land a job/career/business here that is successful. The land is so rich and beautiful it's hard to pass up. People leave and talk bad about it. But it's so nice to live here if you like outdoors and nature. Tons of national parks, etc to see.

The weather and land is stellar. It's really just all the people induced problems that keep me away.

I live in one of the more moderate climates in the US. We don't get too much snow, nor do summers typically get too hot. However, we do get the occasional extreme, and it seems to be happening more often. A couple years back it was 115 for a week. These last couple days were in the teens, cold as shit. But I've lived in Florida and Minnesota, I've seen -40 and 100% humidity at 105°. Doesn't mean I'm not gonna bitch about the fact it's cold AF and the thought of riding a motorcycle right now is completely ridiculous.

I've got heated grips, but I've been thinking about a heated steering wheel. I'd probably ride in this 15 years ago, in fact I remember riding across the pass in February in snow with some friends on our Ducatis. Dumbest decision, but a fond memory

My first job out of high school was working for an ice company. Not the worst job, 2 days a week I was out helping deliver bagged ice to all the convenience stores and such, 2 days per week working in the warehouses and loading trucks to go out for deliver, and one day in the bag room helping bag the ice and also waiting on customers coming in to our outside sales dock. Ice company is roughly 4-5 blocks from a college so it was common for a bunch of college kids to show up on a nice afternoon and want to buy a decent amount of ice for that night's parties. Used to love getting these college girls wearing short shorts and a tank top asking me if it was cold inside. It was below zero. "Sure, step into the vestibule here and cool off while I get your order". It was like a game for us, seeing how many girls you could get to come into the building. Instant indication(s) of just how chilly it was.

Can't tell you how many times I fell in love that summer.......

My climates not "extremely" cold more than a few days each winter and as time goes on we get even less of those but the ones we do get are colder than in the past.

I guess for me, I'm still here because it's the only place I've ever lived most of my life. Family and friends are all in the area for the most part. Always had a decent enough job and prices in the area have been livable most of the time. I wish now that I would have been a little gutsier when I was younger and tried somewhere different. At this point in life I have no desire to reestablish myself somewhere different and start over. I'm hoping in the future home becomes more a place to return to from travels and less a place I spend all of my time anyway.

I'd settle for getting established somewhere to start with. LOL I'm here because of my job. Unless I want to use my CDL for a living again, I don't have a lot of prospects elsewhere. The schedule and pay are hard to beat for what it is, and my current job/title doesn't pay this well anywhere else I could go and would most likely require me to live in a city with higher expenses to boot. I just need to figure out how to get my shit together to build a little place on the land I have and then figure out secure income that let's me go ride the bike more. I'm good if I can figure that out.

just a couple of things tbh
i like snow! but i hate cold lmao but as another has said i like actual seasons. not hot as hell, fire, perfect temps, to hot as hell. just not a fan of it so id rather be in a place that i can have snow and enjoy it even thou it is cold. plus its waaay cheaper out here in the midwest! cost of living is rather low here so houses are cheaper and other stuff is cheaper.

I've been in Michigan since I was 15. It took a few years for me to get used to the winter weather. I like the different seasons, spring and fall being my favorite. But now I'm accustomed to the weather. I'm 63, I'm not going anywhere. The last time I moved it almost killed me. I have a full woodshop in my basement, a few machinist tools, mechanics tools, welders, saws drillpress in the garage. Nope, I'm gonna live out my days right where I'm at. I would love a place out in the country but with real estate prices nowadays and at my stage in life it's just not going to happen.
