Really? I spent 4 yrs in East Texas, drove to Shreveport since the drinking age was 18 in bars, but man the swamp butt in the summer, not a fan of humidity.

Only place I've lived outside of AZ for any significant length of time was in VA Beach, courtesy of the US Navy. That changed this month, though...

And by "Eastern CA", I mean AZ

Internet mechanics I call upon your help. Race support Elantra stopped moving yesterday on my way home. Cruising at 65 and went straight to red line. No loud noises or anything. Pulled over, engine sounds fine, but when in gear and let the clutch out, can feel the trans rotating but the car wouldn’t move.

Fast forward to today. Pulled the trans and clutch. Something had been spinning around inside the clutch and caused it to fail it seems. Found these little springs loose floating around the clutch assembly and you can see where they caused some damage. I have no clue where they came from, can’t see anything on the flywheel side or trans side that would be missing something like this. The only part inside this are other than the clutch is the starter up by the flywheel but that appears fine as well.

Anyone know where these springs could be from? Ordered a clutch kit that will be here Friday but would hate to put it back together without knowing the source.

I must be reading that wrong because that sounds like your diff or axles have grenaded. If the flywheel spins the clutch, and the transmission input and output shaft rotate but no forward motion is obtained, your issue is past the clutch.

But then you shouldn't find bits in where the clutch is... unless there were windows.

Have you looked at the throwout bearing? Is it maybe some kind of funky ass seal or spring in there for "reasons"

EDIT... speaking of seal... check your rear main?? Did the little spring inside the seal disintegrate and this is just a secondary issue?

I’m no pro mechanic but those look like the springs on the clutch, right?

Engine spins fine. Trans seems to spin fine. But they don’t seem to be connected. So clutch. Buddy just found this image and the size of the springs seems to be appropriate. Idle/low torque damper springs.3AD2B277-7D98-4415-9E7F-0A51118502DE.png But cannot confirm without destroying the clutch plate. Gonna do that after inspecting the new parts.

Not visible on the good ole Hyundai. But yeah the small springs seem to be suspect.

Doubtful after this week mostly temps. There was a visible decrease just on Saturday between going to and coming home from box canyon. I think even the last little north facing slope part of the road before the upper junction is probably clear now

Still have some trim work for the building to do. The powder coat company is out here and almost done building the oven. Will start building the spray booth tomorrow. Electrical gets pulled in on saturday. Propane on monday. Should be up and running in a few weeks. 20240117_123524.jpg 20240117_123502.jpg 20240117_123510.jpg

Should be good n muddy to add to the Box Canyon trip if you havent sprayed the 4R off! Get to taste two different trips if you roll under to wrench on things afterwards! lol Full experience

Soooo... AZTW pricing on powdercoat? ;)

 Exactly. I swear even if I do spray it I end up with grit in my mouth or eyes somehow.

Will be the tow behind fast traveler. Half the horsepower of the truck at 1/12th the weight. Thing fucking rips.

We aren't entirely sure how well it will fit into our lifestyle, but we decided it was worth the effort to at least give it a shot.

Also not sure how long the dinky trailer will last, but at least it's very light and easily maneuverable (main purchasing reason). I'm already working on the design of a more stout, custom, version for the future.
