I had to turn back here. That water was deep and it was cold. I couldn’t risk taking a dip.

interesting, should make for a slightly better dropper. Doesn't seem like it's worth it to upgrade from V2 to V3 but for a new bike or replacement it seems like it will still be a great choice.

I have had creeking in my V2 for a while, I don't think its the dropper since it started back up basically right after I did a full service...I am still not ruling it out though. hopefully the new bushings they went with make it a little more stout.

yeah, it doesn't seem quite worth the upgrade for me. and really, the only v2 part that might need to be replaced is the hydraulics which is cheap and easy enough to replace anyways. so, i won't be upgrading anytime soon but will keep the new one in mind for sure.

    hmm....you sure it isn't a bearing? dropper wouldn't normally make a creaking.

It could be but frame wise the only bearings are the BB and Headset. It's an aluminum Ibis Ripley and most of the suspension uses bushings, which I replaced and it still creaks.

The other thing it could be is the saddle, there is tiny bit of play in the clamp but I am still leaning on it coming from the seat tube, either dropper or even just being dirty. I used to use carbon paste and tried to clean it all off so I could have just done a bad job with that.

i get liberal with my carbon paste. lolol. haven't had a prlblem there. coudl be your saddle. my saddle creaks like a mofo every so often. but a good clean does it good.

so on ibis..those bushings...are you sure the pivots haven't ovaled out? i knew a guy on a ripmo that ovaled out the space there and no amount of bushign replacement was gonna fix anything. had to get a whole new triangle.

I am not sure but those bushings were such a pain in the ass to get in/out that I think they are fine. I will try and check though.

I also wouldn't be surprised if the bearings in the yoke were bad. they did not spin well at all. The whole service I did left me less than impressed with the design...like I imagine a smoother system would run better

oh yeah, definitely check the bearings in the yoke. the yoke does tend to provide leverage on the bearings in ways the bearings don't like.

I just don't know what I would do. It's actualyl the upper link, not the yoke (after I double checked) but Ibis just sells the whole link. I guess I could try to press out the bearings with better ones...brand new they felt like dirt haha

That is true...I look at the diagram for my spire and I'm like, this may be a job for a pro when the time comes haha

I woudln't think the spire is as crazy a job as the ripley?

I love that buying bike parts makes me do goofy things like testing pedals out by stepping on them while they are on the ground. Whilst wearing my riding shoes of course!

The ripley is fairly simple, kind of a tight squeeze but straight forward. The most annoying part is pushing the old bushings out.

I haven't done the spire yet but that parts diagram is intimidating haha. Definitely looks like it is easy to access but so many parts haha. Hopefully the bearings last a while

Check out the website and the pin design, they are super trick.

A little longer platforms than most pedals, which is a very unique feeling. I'm coming out of triple achilles full reconstruction surgery (2 on the right foot, 1 on the left foot), and I will need all the help I can get with foot position on the pedals until I'm 100% or close.

After two years I figured out why my Garmin Edge 830 was missing some Trailforks trails when I was out riding. Well it was using the 2019 Trailforks basemap despite me syncing and "unlocking maps" with the Connect IQ app.

Turns out I had to physically plug the Edge into my machine and use Garmin Express to manually sync the latest basemap. Huge files as expected.

lol. yeah, i can see how that can be intimidating. be methodical and watch te parts and it'll be a breeze i think. haha. but yeah, hopefully the bearings last. fingers crossed.

huh. you would think that the sync would be pretty regular. not something you need to plug your device in for.
