Had the first little issue with Shadow (my Tundra). The AMP Research step on the driver's side quit retracting.



After some investigation, I found the problem...the motor drive shaft failed.

I’ve always loved how slick those are when they work, but for the price of them, I wish they were more reliable. I’ve seen motors failing on them not infrequently.

 

Yeah, they wouldn't be on there if the previous owner hadn't installed them...I think they are around $1700 dollars. When I called technical support I had them give me the motor part number I will need because I have heard similar stories regarding reliability. I already have a crack in the case on the driver's side gear box so it is just a matter of time before it will need a new motor as the gear box isn't sold without the motor. I already priced the motor/gear box.. .they are 150 bucks. Although the steps do come with a 5 year warranty, so had I been the original purchaser, they would have covered this issue and the cracked gear box under warranty.

I also think this was a little bit of karma catching up with me as I always talk crap about people to my wife when I see them driving around with a step that is not functioning correctly....

 

Friend of mine has them on his Sierra and only one side works too lol

 

Is the side that doesn't work stuck up or down? That is the real question...lol

 

I think it was stuck down, so he took the step off till he can fix it.

 

Scored these this morning. 15k miles off of a 2021 TRD Pro for only $500. They're in VA and my buddy will be shipping them over shortly.

You know, I already have one actually. I don't know why, as I never carry anything in the back. I just like buying stuff I guess.

 

I bought one. And now I can't use it because too much crap in the back. Did you ever find that missing trim piece on top of the radio?

 

No, I gave up looking. It isn't noticeable, hence why I didn't notice until the day after I bought it.
