You’d set up a North American only truck to use globally?

Without sounding too much like a Toyota fanboy, none of the dealers in my town have 2024 Colorados or Rangers on the lot...

That’s impossible. There’s no way to deliver trucks to every dealer in the country on the same day. People are effing morons that believe this nonsense and then spread it.

Oh, yeah, Chevy and Ford hosed their rollouts. Some will defend them and blame it on the strikes, but they were challenged even before the strikes hit and ultimately it's their labor force and their supply chain. Colorados sat in fields awaiting approval for months, and I'm not sure who to blame there, but even after they cleared the EPA, trucks were slow to ship and slow to be assembled. What a mess.

It's not an unusual thing, happens all the time. It is easier to set up a truck you can buy in the country you live in and temporarily export it to other countries than it is to import a vehicle to the US to prepare for a trip. (you cant even do that for instance with a new 70 series). Sure it would be great to think that you could fly over to Australia or Africa and buy a Land Cruiser, set it up and travel the world etc a lot of the time that is not that realistic.

People do it with motorcycles as well.

The ability to get parts is not impossible with the age of overnight shipping etc. I would probably look at something like maybe a wrangler/gladiator that is sold all over the place. The gentleman that has been traveling the world in his Tacoma seems to have been able to get parts when he needs them, or allows the time to wait for the parts to come in etc.

But you do have a point, so I imagine if you were going to set up a mid-size truck rig, the Ranger would probably be a good platform if you live in the US since you can obtain it here and it is the same as the global model.

The Wescotts did it with Ford’s and for years. https://www.turtleexpedition.com/

There is also a couple who had a Ford Earthroamer, then were stuck in Russia for months waiting on repairs, believe a Ford tech finally had to fly out and do the repair.

There is also the maybe somewhat famous in the realm of expeditions, Tom Sheppard went from Land Rovers to Mercedes G-Wagon, to a Jeep of all things. Believe it is always relative, one thing you can count on traveling long distances, if it can go wrong, it most likely will.

Dan Grec has been doing it for 7 years with Jeeps, started with a used TJ to the bottom of the world then I think he did Africa with a Wrangler, Austrlia with a Gladiator, and I believe his next trip is with another modified Wrangler. I think I saw he was putting a total composites camper thing on the back of the wrangler. (I may have missed a trip in there but they were all with Jeeps).

Have read a little on him, seems happy with the Jeeps. Funny because if anyone mentions Jeeps on here they get immediately ragged on, while he is out there actually doing it.

Lightning with Raptor suspension. No immediate plans to bring this to market, it's only to gauge consumer response. Not interested in Fords but I like that they think there is a market for this.
