I’ve always loved those wheels as well. Never seen them on a 2nd gen taco. They look nice!

I think chains would be better. If its ice, no amount of airing down will help. Also, I thought "pizza cutter" type of tire footprints were better in the snow? Or at least in deep snow. I could be wrong, but maybe air up?

Correct, narrow tires do better in snow. You want to reach the ground. Do not air down in snow or ice. You want high contact pressure.

The single most important thing for ice and snow is tires. Snow tires are soft rubber that does not get hard when cold, allowing traction.

when i use to hag out with lot of the land rover guys we use to all run skinny tires, and would purposefully try to spin tires to dig down for traction most often it worked!

I agree that dedicated winter tires on that guy’s truck would be the best. Boise gets a fair amount of winter weather. But that’s also money that not everyone has.

Chains aren’t that expensive and would’ve gotten him all over town.

I know winter tires perform better at their highest psi. Airing down a/t tires in snow makes sense to me in the way I’ll air down for off road trails. Lower psi = larger contact patch = more traction. That likely won’t make a lick of difference on ice.

I wonder if this is true. Narrow means stabbing into the ground with more weight on the patch.

when I lived in CO the weather was temperamental so I didn’t air down. Because that would mean airing back up again every day. And less MPG.

it’s never just snow and/or ice all the time there. It switches every day. Bunch of snow, then all sun coming out and warms up melting it all.
Could be snow on the way to work in the morning and then gone by lunch. Not to mention if the plow trucks come out.

Today I got my Temp /Compass display to work on my 2008. (according to the Manual/quick ref guide it is a Toyota Accessory Meter). After watching a couple of Youtubes, I decided it was worth a shot. Had trouble finding anything on the forum ( still learning the best ways to search). But apparently there is a resistor that commonly has a bad connection.

So I dropped the the assembly. One video pointed to one resistor and another pointed to the one next to it and opposite side. So I just resoldered all 4 connections. Went to put it back together. Good news, worked great. Bad news, couldn't find clips from the "posts". Tried without and it sagged.

So after a little probing around with a magnetic tool , I found it (after seeing if I could purchase online). Only found one, but I believe that someone before had tried to fix this. 2 out of 4 plastic clips were broken and some wire splices were made next to the connectors which from all videos and photos, appears to be non-OEM.

But it appears to hold well with the one metal clip and I found out it was 49 deg and heading West. :) Apparently , according to the videos, the dealers (stealers) wanted $900 to fix.

I just purchased this truck about 2 months /2 thousand miles ago.

With snow the idea is that it cuts a rut in and helps track and most of the advantage is when stopping building up material infront of the tires.

But if you can swing it dedicated snow tires are a step above, its not even funny how much better snow tires work. And if legal, studded tires...

I removed the DD Elite Series fogs I bought a couple months ago and put my SS3 Sports back in. Although the light cutoff is very good on the Elites, I just couldn't warm up to the look of them on my truck. The SS3s look better in my opinion and do just as well in fog. I'll be selling my Elites as soon as I clean them and package them up.

That intermittent wiper stalk makes a world of difference. You dont realize how nice it is until you dont have it, definitely a mod I wish I did sooner with my truck

Not sure why it took me so long to order this. Just happened to be watching @boogie3478 video on it and ordered it the same day.

Anyone run these performance elites have a setting for a daily driver they recommend.

Just ordered the exhaust for my truck. It should be here on Monday. Hopefully the shipping doesn't get messed up. I put my work address and it changed the "bill to" address.
Not sure why but I have a confirmation so we'll wait and see.
    It's Walker from rockauto.com

Last week I put my new URD spec-U headers on my 2011 and took my old Doug Thorley long tubes off. So I braved the cold yesterday and installed the doug thorleys on the 2006. I was careful but I have no idea how I got lucky enough that all the original manifold nuts actually came off with 241k miles lol. Now has Doug Thorley long tubes and y-pipe, and URD cat back
