I finally understand how the 2nd genners felt when the 3rd gen rolled out

While I agree gas is better to cook with, you sound like you belong in a flyover state or some compound in Montana/Idaho than California.

That's you. I'd rather keep keys in my pocket than hanging from the steering column and jabbing into my knee. In fact I think the touch door handles and push-button start is a major convenience improvement the 3rd gen has over 2nd gen.

Unfortunately my 4Runner doesn't have push-button start; it came with these monstrosities. I keep the ignition key on a separate ring from my other keys, so I don't have all my keys dangling from the steering column.

I hate that key with a passion.

every electronic component of that key failed, the back up key failed, the one the dealership made for me failed.

I’m the exact opposite. I prefer the all in one 4Runner key over my truck that has a separate key and remote fob.

How do you roll all the windows down with the all-in-one key? :D

Changing batteries is a hassle on these. Split the shell open and there's a inner capsule that you need to open.

Your phone....and paying for the app after a year. At least that's how I would sell it.

I can roll them all down using the key fob. One of my favorite 4Runner features in the summer. Wish the Tacoma did that.

Meh. Not something I’ve ever thought I needed. I can roll the windows down when I get in the truck just fine.

Tesla created the blueprint for how a keycard should work (as a backup) in conjunction with your phone key (primary). Manufacturers just need to follow it. Key fobs are annoying to carry around.

The 4th Gen is real, the Key Card is real. Be very carefull! The battery in my Key Card failed after light use and 5 months. There was NO warning. A trip to the woods, got a message after I started the truck that the key was not detected. After a 30 min drive, shut the truck off, this was a mistake. Tried to restart, and only managed this by holding the KeyCard, out of my wallet, next to the big red button. Another 30 min drive, shut truck off, and nothing. Would not recognize key card and would not start the truck. Would not lock or unlock doors. There was no signal from the Key Card to the truck. None.
5 months is not an acceptable battery life, nor is the lack of any warning the battery was low. This could have resulted in a long walk.

Is that like a safety feature or something, that it will only let you drive so far? I keep my key card in my wallet , but keep my fob in my pocket.
