Unfortunately you are correct, this happens all the time where I work. Especially the 'wasn't caught on camera' part...unless it benefits the company; if thats the case they could tell you what color the perps eyes are. o_O

I definitely agree with you on that point. They've even thrown in an additional shift schedule called 'Panama' where you work 12 hr shifts but you work '2 days on, 2 days off, 3 days on' then it alternates. That one again, looks good on paper. Sure, you work 60 hrs a week, work only half the month and every other weekend is a 3 day weekend, but the days off you do get is spent recovering from the 12 hr shifts you've just come off. That sucks. Then there's the FD work schedule where they are at the station for a few days straight. I dont know exactly since I'm not a fireman so I may be wrong. It's hearsay from chatting with some of the guys that work around here.

Before my 8 day break, I do 4 12’s days followed by 3 12’s night getting off on a Monday Morning. Feels like the last day of school, every time. :fistbump:

The best schedule I worked was 24/7 production with 12 hour shifts, 4 shifts.

    Front of the week:
Sun, Mon, Tue & every other Wed

    Back of the week:
Every other Wed, every Thurs, Fri, Sat

My method was to commit to work/sleep on work days.
Having 3-4 days off in a row you could really get stuff done.

Vacation time was awesome, using 3 days got you 10 days off in a row!

On the other hand I was a lot younger then... :pout:

The problem was all the new people ended up on the back of the week night shift.

We do 24:48 at my fire department. 24 on 48 off. Then every 12 weeks we have a paid day off so that we don’t have a to manny hours worked in a year, we call them k day. All I’ve know for the last 23 year's. 0800-0800 my schedule is planned out for the year and ends up being around 10 days a month, but I’ve missed birthdays and holidays because of it. Also works out to a 96 and 120 hours every 2 weeks . And a 1/3 of life not at home but it’s been a great career

When I was on AD we did all kinds of weird schedules to get the manning numbers up so each shift wasn't a skeleton crew. I didn't like the 2,2,3,flip schedule as it was to difficult keep it straight in your head what days you were scheduled on or off. I did like working 4-10s with a 3 day weekend, that was buttered bread to me. But most any schedule that you could work for an extended period without having to change up your days off was good with me. I didn't really care if the shifts were 8 or 12 hours.

My brother is a fireman, he worked the 24 on 48 off schedule for 20+ years until he got promoted to the white hats. He had at least one side job through most of that time he did on his "2-days off." Despite the pay bump to management, I think he took an over all pay cut, because he didn't have the time for this contracting job. There was also a lot of shift swapping with other guys so if he needed a certain day off, but was on the schedule to be working, they would cover for each other. That might mean working on shift for 48 or 72 hours straight, but in turn being able to have 5 or even 8 days off without taking vacation time. As a divorced father, he would work a lot of cover shifts throughout the year for other guys so he would have more time with his kids in the summer and over school breaks. I definitely think of the fireman 24/48 schedule as nice perk of the job.

Extra bonus, if things are quiet, you're getting paid to eat and sleep or watch movies for half your shift...:woot:

True the station I was at for 18 of my 22 we averaged 15-20 call a shift and had a lot of sleepless nights. New station we average 4-8 calls
