So I'm 2000kms away from home visiting my old hometown because my best friend his wife and two children were murdered and I inherited a few things like his couch I fill up my truck from empty when I get here and I use "the better gas" because I'm about to towns U-Haul trailer full of furniture a full tank was 127$ @ 1.96$ per litre next thing you know my truck is surging and in limp mode and does not work any longer....

The closest Toyota dealer is 2 hours away so 1100$ tow bill ..
Toyota looks at it and I'm very adamant that they tell me everything before taking more steps. So they phone me and say
Sir your battery is dead so we put a new one in 200$
My response. Ok but the brand new 450$ red top I just bought 8 months ago better get put in my truck and not just 'trashed'

They agree and say it also needed an oil change 200$
They say on Monday we are going to clean the injectors I believe flush the lines and run their own gas on probably some sort of bleed valve in the line I imagine...

So Monday they phone me and tell me it worked my truck ran fine on their gas they hooked it back to my tank and it ran like garbage again.... They said I need new fuel pump and pickup I think it was 458$ for the pump and 450$ install. Around
    A total of 980$ + the 400$ for previous work +tax comes to 1608$

I asked them if they kept a sample of the fuel they said oh no we drained your 127$ of fuel down the drain back on Friday.

Now I live on a fixed income and.am still paying for my truck I just lost my.only.support system that would help me in these situations. And I'm unsure what to do I don't feel like me getting bad gas from a pump should cost me. 1608$ + 1100$ tow

Any advice ? 168,000kms on my truck no warranties left. And they told me the fuel pump was already replaced for the recall.

I would go back over conversations with a fine toothed comb about exactly what you authorized and what you didn't. Anything you gave the verbal OK on, you're hosed, unfortunately. I would be taking it up the chain about not keeping a sample of the bad gas because that was needed for evidence. They might discount some things out of sympathy and bad communication if you can win a manager to your viewpoint.

The world is full of people who want to rip you off...

Neighbor guy had a burst pipe in his garage, PVC to outdoor spigot. Called plumber, 30 min fix, $1200. I told the guy to call me next time to assess the situation.

Yea I'm on my phone. Also on a phone call and frustrated. Also hungry, and driving to get snow tires put on another truck so I can spend 100$ to drive to my truck. I can go over and fix it all after if it's a huge deal, I'm sorry. Did I mention I'm hungry and haven't been home since November.

Yeah my bad, I’m a child. Honestly, I’m sorry about your shit situation, and especially your friend and his family. That’s just awful :(

Keep a cool head and just do what you need to get back on the road. Don’t let anyone exploit your emotional state for a an upsell! They say your battery is dead, fine, you aren’t required to buy the one they threw in there. Don’t let them fleece you for that oil change. Sort out the fuel issue and be done. Good luck man!

Sorry this all happened OP. Hope you find some resolution. Your story is a little hard to follow, but if I understand correctly, it sounds like the tank of bad gas you need as evidence to pursue legal battles with the fuel station (which would cost you more money and time; things you seem to be low on at the moment) was flushed down the drain. Whatever the case, if you do or don't decide to pursue the fuel station in a legal battle, you'll still be expected to pay the bills now if you need the truck back in working condition anytime soon. As someone else said, your best bet is combing back through conversations with the dealer to figure out if they did any work you didn't authorize, although thats not really going to help you in this big picture. Sorry it all happened, and don't know if anyone working or experienced in insurance claims could chime in, but maybe an insurance claim could resolve it. May be too late for that, but its my only contribution to the thread of ideas.

Probably completely dependent on the type of policy you have on the truck, and if your policy excludes fuel related issues on your comprehensive, but some policies protect against it, so I'd most definitely ask. Even without the fuel, documentation/receipt that you purchased gas there, along with documentation of the tow/proof you didn't drive more than that tank and get gas elsewhere, along with documentation from the dealer to confirm contaminated fuel would probably be enough for your insurance to pursue the fuel station through subrogation (or whatever its called). This takes the burden off of you entirely (aside from your deductible and the extra authorized work to the vehicle not in relation to the fuel). Thats my best suggestion for you. Talk to your insurance and get some answers before you stress yourself to death. If your policy doesn't cover it, then you can stress about the logistics of figuring it out yourself. People are here to help though, even if you have to weed through snarky comments (I make them daily).

You have a tow bill, which will be documentation of where they picked the truck up from. From the sounds of it, it doesn't sound like you made it very far from the fuel station, correct? I don't think exact mileage/km is a dealbreaker if your insurance wanted to build a case. Just talk with them, they'll know what questions to ask, and are more equipped to deal with this than you. Even if you don't have coverage for this instance, they'll probably be a great resource if you need to pursue things on your own.

a few things, and some vinyl....
You have a tow bill, and if the dealer does their job, documentation of the issue, with diagnosis being "bad gas"... that should be more than enough to at least get "some" money from the gas station...

this, but you do specifically need a receipt for the quantity of fuel purchased from the gas station. a credit card bill with a dollar amount the gas station billed is not sufficient. without that, you're on the hook for all charges.

You surely can't be the only purchaser of that gas . The stations tank was probably refilled recently and the fueler probably screwed up
