What are your honest thoughts on remote tailgate lock?

I guess unique isnt the right word. More like specific to the railroad. Honestly, its mostly flagging and safety equipment for protection. Things like fusees, various flags and colored lights, signalling devices, and such. Lots of PPE. And I have to go into the truck often for it cuz you cant touch anything on the railroad without full protection.
Sometimes I carry extra cabling, welding and grinding tools, and your everyday wrenches, hammers, and pry bars, but way bigger. Stuff that most normal backyard mechanic just wouldnt have in the garage cuz of the size. I dont have to carry all of it all the time either. Just what I know Ill need for the day.
Not as sexy as I made it seem...LOL. Shouldnt have used the word unique. But if it all got ripped off out of the truck bed, Id be in a world of trouble cuz altogether, its worth quite a bit and its company issued.
Thats why screwing with the key sux for me.

I'd order through a Toyota website. There's 2 types...for shortbed & Longbed.

Why do they all say 2019 and later? I have searched multiple Toyota parts sites and they all say the short bed part number does NOT fit the 2018. What gives?

 

Ignore, I installed on my 2016, toyota parts has some strangeness built in to make you doubt yourself

 

That was one of my musts when I ordered my Taco. One click and I'm done.

 

Was one of the first mods I did to my truck, super convenient and pretty easy to install. I'd rather not forget to lock my tailgate and end up losing it

 

You actually don't need to carry a key and a fob around. The fob has a key inside of it that you can pop out and use to unlock the tailgate with.

 

I don’t know why they charge almost $20 to ship that, but even with shipping it’s cheaper than the $215 my local dealership is charging for the same item. So I ordered it for mine today.

I still believe the Tailgate Lock is a great purchase...Been happy since!

 

I can’t believe that the lock is an option and not standard. It was on my 2013 base model ram and on my parents 2016 F150 XLT.

 

just installed the $58 Amazon FAUX-E.M. lock.... way more convenient. I have tools and shit I need locked, when I go into Home Despot. I can touch my pocket fob when I get close and know my lively hood wasnt pilfered

 

I love being able to remotely unlock and lock my tailgate.

I also put the security hinge lock on as well. Pretty much don't have to worry anyone stealing my tailgate. Plus I hid a gps tracker inside the tailgate.

 

I just installed the oem remote tailgate lock on my Tacoma today. Securing the harness as it passes by the muffler was a PIA. Now it’s the way it should have came standard.
