P0418 shouldn't cause limp mode, just some of the P24xx codes do.

The P0418 basically means the PCM either isn't receiving a diagnostic signal from the Air Injection Control Driver or doesn't like the signal it's getting from it.

Should I still upload the scope recordings as a priority...like asap? Seems like we might be shifting focus from 'canbus' to 'things that aren't canbus'. I'll upload them either way along with my notes, but your responses would dictate where I do this today or over the weekend :)

P0418 wasn't alone. He brought some friends to the hoedown.

No, I dont think theres a need for specific data right now. The fact you can talk to the ECU now is good. Did you happen to notice what module was bad?

I mean if you want to capture you a known good you can but we know it talks now and we know we have more bad modules.

It's up to you but I figure lets get the truck running and then go after secondary issues.

The other codes are marked as permanent, meaning they were set at one time (probably when you bench tested the PCM) but are not active right now. Permanent codes can not be cleared by a scan too or a battery disconnect, the monitors for them have to run and pass multiple times before they will clear so I'm not worried about them.

I think they all were trying to contribute just to jack with me, but If I had to guess I would say the brake one (or the wiring around it) and the airbag one.

Unplugging the Yaw made the Steering and ECM appear in the Canbus test section of Techstream; the Steering kept going yellow/red/yellow/red.
Unplugging the steering looked ok at first, then it seemed to go really, really fast, like it was playing at 3 or 4 times the speed from the Yaw test.
Unplugging the brake - and I saw this the day before - seemed to make either the Can H or Can L disappear. It was the yellow one. Additionally, it appeared in a different part of the screen without me touching it. When I connected it back, the Yellow one came back and it looked more in line with the others on the scope.

The airbag one, when unplugged, is when I could use the handheld scan tool and see the ECM on Techstream.

The combo meter should be here Tuesday.

I work from home so if there is anything to check or poke, let me know and I should be able to accommodate.

I'm guessing the truck is still a crank no start at this point?

I haven't tried....is this an OK/green flag to attempt?? I want to make sure I don't hurt anything doing so. I'm already excitedly nervous this is a big deal for me to try cranking it!!

Wow. The last time there was a crank attempt, I think it was spouse who plugged in the ECM and tried the reset. We know at the time the truck wasn't communicating with the ECM, hence the no start. It hasn't been tried since. It has fresh gas and oil has been changed, but that is it and it's been since December on that I think.

I need to connect back the large air thing on top of the engine, check all the crevasses for random tools. I will check all the 5v things too.

1.) What about the canbus things unplugged - leave them all unplugged?

2.) Also, I have the front seat out which means a couple of things are disconnected with it. Do I put the seat back in?

3.) Also, there was some kind of mount around the area of the CKP under the truck. Am I good to leave it for now?

4.) Should I have one of the diag tools connected so I feel like a DIY Pro? Maybe the orange one lol.

What happens if it actually starts....I should have a backup with me out there because I'll probably pass out.

I mean check your oil and coolant obviously and make sure they are good, also make sure there's nothing hanging around that could get caught in the fan or belt.

Don't worry about plugging any of the modules back in yet.

Wouldn't hurt to have a scanner connected so if it doesn't start we can look at data like if it shows RPM while cranking or not.

Heading downstairs to grab big fire extinguisher and then headed out to truck. Missing driver's seat is ok for this attempt?

Cool. I don't see me driving it tonight. Besides the day it is driveable, I already know the first place I am going to :) I'm just overly-cautious about the airbags is all.

Had a slight diversion as there was a cat in the truck. We scared each other pretty good. If you live in the lower 48 you may have even heard me yelp. Cat gets the last laugh though by picking my little 10 x 10 utopia to mark his territory. At least it wasn't in the truck.

I'm nervous AF, but think I'm about ready to try this. One more quick check around the truck...

The airbags can't do anything if they are unplugged, you would just set codes for whatever is unplugged if the module was plugged in.

Really the only major no no with airbag systems is never unbolt, move, or flip over the SRS module with it powered, it has a rollover sensor built into it and can blow the curtain bags if it senses a rollover.

Also it's not a good idea to disconnect/reconnect SRS components while the key is on (although I have seen people do it without issue), but turning the key on with stuff already disconnected isn't gona do anything but set codes.

I just thought I would be able to try it. So a few things:

I checked the resistance while the battery was disconnected. Most beautiful at 61.
Tried the handheld as a quick check - no communication.
Tried the PC methods. No connection with any of my fav tools or Techstream.

I notice the battery is at 12v per the BoB, so I'm going to hunt down the charger that grew legs.

This was some of the weirdness I saw the other night. Since I typed all of this I'll go ahead and post it, but I located the issue and we are back in business.

The battery is hovering at 12.0 and drops to 11.8 which seems low to crank - should I go ahead and connect the charger to it or are we ready for the countdown?
