    Currently have a '17 Tundra.

Trying to decide whether to just get the old '23 Tacoma & deal with outdated tech as well as less than ideal power & MPG's.

    OR

Hope that Toyota figured out the 2.4L Turbo. The thing I love best about my Yota's is the reliability & durability. I wouldn't mind better MPG's and new tech either. Just can't decide.

The only answers you will get are opinions ... some opinions better-educated that others. But still just opinions. Most every internet "technical review" seems a bit too "supervised by Toyota representative".

The only easily reached conclusions regard looks and cabin design. My personal opinion is that the 25-in TV they put in some models of the 2024 is outrageous. And the cabin looks gimicky, more like a Tesla than a truck.

But if 3rd gen Tacoma has too many unendurable flaws to delay the Tacoma purchase until the bugs in the Gen 4 re worked out, then go for it.

That's fair. I suppose I need to go putz around in a '23 to test drive for a bit. I'm not a crazy off-roader, nor do I plan to tow much besides by Can Am & even then it isn't very frequent.

I need something I can throw deer in the back of that won't get stuck & isn't breaking down all the time....Guess I answered my own question- '23 should in theory be the "most reliable" as it's the last year before the big updates.

Gen3 has its issues. Realistic towing limited to 5000 according to some. And the transmission "hunts" without an OTT tune. But those who report issues also still keep them.

Test drives should include stop-and-go, steady stretches, freeway on-ramps, steady at 70 and steady at 60 on the freeway. Sit in the backseat ... have your kids (if any) and significant-other (if any) check if the Tacoma is too small in the backseat ... does not mean do-not-buy but just know its limits.

Just my wife and I no kids to worry about, just have to make sure my recurve will fit in the back seat haha!

Anything by that can realistically be done to help with power (not a supercharger)?

Oh man, good luck. I can't imagine any Taco being an upgrade over the gen 2 Tundra (unless you have the 4.0 base model).

Talk about reliability, nothing will beat what you have.

Again, good luck with the rabbit hole.

OTT Tune imho is by far the best thing you can do to help with gear hunting, torque, throttle. I've had mine for about 3 weeks, and love it. Good luck with your search!
