Yes. And it's tiny. Only 1.1kwh

The drive assist battery is the briefcase looking thing midship. The 12v is just aft.

That's a small battery but it makes sense for a system like that I guess.

@Speedytech7 @Ozark_RegCab I wonder what it would have been like if the 1st gen 4Runner had an engine like the VQ30DE installed instead of the 3.slow? I guess most would still be on the road.

If it weren't for how good the the 1st gen 4runner looks and that you could get a 22re... they'd all be gone cause the 3vze is a turd and basically made a whole generation of trash 4runners (2nd)

I was a Honda fanboi back during that era. Didn't start buying Toyotas until the turn of the century. Feels like if my first experience was that garbage 3.slow, I might not have become the Toyota cheerleader that I am today.

That engine was pure turd. And to think it came from the same corporation that created the amazing 1UZ-FE. And I get that design constraints are what they are, but you've got the pinnacle and possibly the worst ever designs happening at the same time.

    That's just silly.
I bought a Ranger midsize as a company expense back in 2011 for $9K. Sold it during covid for $12K.
Fun utility toy, but that's about it.

I mean, it'll go 65 and has more clearance on 30's than I do on 33's, heater/ac and seat heaters

It was their first experiment with a V6, and it didn’t turn out very well to say the least. They pretty much fixed everything that was wrong with it on the 5VZ though.

I thought the early 3.0s in the 1st gen runners weren’t as bad since they were still using the asbestos head gaskets until 1990 or so. But yea even with the 22re, the second gen 4Runners are underpowered turds. The only reason to get one is they’re easier to SAS.

No they're all trash. And it's not the head gaskets fault that they blew. It's the exhaust manifolds. The second gen is no easier to sas than a Tacoma, they're just low price beaters because the stock ifs is not that great and drivetrain is ass. The a340h and it's hydraulic transfer case are garbage too

As a whole at least Japan still nailed their first mass-market v6, which was the Nissan vg30. Those things are like Chevy small blocks except they go way longer. They don't make a fuck of a lot of power unless you do a lot of work to em but they don't ever give up, you can overheat them, you can forget to change their timing belts, you can put absolute garbage bottom of the barrel oil in them and they'll just keep running

Nothing about a 2nd gen 4Runner is even remotely appealing, not even the low price they fetch

Yeah unfortunately their image has kind of been ruined by the kind of people that can buy them. They're not awful looking or anything but there's just no reason to own one when third gen 4Runners are so cheap

I wonder why the first Xterras aren’t more popular on off road groups since they basically have that same engine. They also have torsion bars but are still way better than a 2nd gen 4Runner and are on par with a 3rd gen.
