Went with Watco Danish Oil. I was going to use Pure Tung Oil, but hate waiting for a week for it to dry.

1 coat of oil on so far.

Will hopefully start chair #2 next weekend.

Does that make you a woodworker? Of my 3 brothers, one needed proper advice about "helping" a circular saw during cuts (so that I did not suffer the kickback). One make a rickety stereo cabinet that could not be bumped without tilting. The third freely chooses to stick with cooking and teaching college.

    Nice work and nice symmetry.

What stock did you start off with (i.e. 2x4, 4x4, etc)?

I used 2x8 and 2x6 lumber from Lowe’s. You could also use 2x4 for some parts, but the 2x4 selection seemed to have more moisture and knots so I skipped them. I bought extra of each knowing I will be making a second chair soon and wanting to work around knots as much as possible.

Well I still don't have much grip strength in my thumb but I figured out how to get the belt on the drillpress and adjust it with one hand more or less, or should I say with one thumb.
The top half of the front pully needed to come off. 1 lock ring and one set screw. Then a couple of wood wedges and light taping to work it off. You do not want to pry on these cast aluminum pullys.
    20240115_134008.jpg
Once I got the belt on and both front and rear pully halves it was time to put the spring and snap ring back on. Since I can't squeeze the spring I clamped it in a vice and put a couple of zip ties on it to hold it compressed. Then set it in place.
    20240115_140244.jpg
I put the spring cap on and then the snap ring.
    20240115_140336.jpg
Then just cut the zip ties and pulled them out with a pair of pliers.
    20240115_140827.jpg
Here I'm backing off the lock ring on the front pully to raise the pully half up. Once it's adjusted properly the set screw will be tightened and the lock ring also tightened.
    20240115_141422.jpg
You want to adjust it so the belt doesn't come out past the front pully when it's at its slowest speed. This also keeps the belt from rubbing on the speed adjuster shaft.
    20240115_141714.jpg
So the drill press is back together, tested and fully operational again. So soon back to drilling out the waste on the leg mortices I hope. I'm a one thumb man still.

Looks fantastic. That is all I use is a wipe on varnish. Easy on, not gonna blow up the house with overspray yada dada yada.

I was asked to make something like this:
    Screenshot_20240110_125922_Pinterest.jpg

It took me a while to figure out which materials to use for which pieces, but I did and this is what I've got so far:
    20240119_143035.jpg

I'm not great with free hand cutting on the jigsaw, but I thin when it gets painted all the imperfect edges will blend a little better. :fingerscrossed:

Put a piece of sandpaper around a soup can and sand the openings lightly. That should smooth out the edges a bit in a nice radius.

Make it dark enough like the one you copied and the naturally-occurring shadows will confuse the eye if it searches for errors.
