I just put it at the bottom of the bar to offer to guests later, and maybe my taste buds will change... Things like COVID have a weird way of messing with things like that.

There’s a bar I go to from time to time that has a 1792 single barrel, I swear I’m the only one who drinks it since it’s been there a while. In NC this is a very hard to find bottle, as is any 1792 aside from small batch. Anyway it’s a fantastic pour and a great value.

This shit is the biggest sleeper in the whiskey world right now.

Everyone says it's the Jack BP offerings, but word is out on them. These things still manage to duck radar quite a bit.

I wouldn’t call Four Roses barrel picks sleepers — they’re extremely popular, and the secondary market for them is plenty active. I’ve been to lots of liquor stores in lots of different states and never seen one on the shelf. Any time I’ve ever heard a story about one coming to a store, whether in our area or somewhere else, they sell out quickly. I think in terms of how well known and popular they are, they’re on par with OF SB picks. They just haven’t jumped up to the level of say Weller or Taylor.

On the other hand JD SBBS of both varieties have become consistent shelf stock in many places, maybe because it’s still a sleeper, maybe because the distillery is pumping out a hell of a lot more.

I’d argue the most underrated bourbons around are on the shelf, starting with Russell’s Single Barrel and 10 Year. Knob Creek Single Barrel also qualifies.

Edit: the lady who runs the local Coast Guard exchange told me she has tried to reserve a 4Roses barrel pick online a couple years in a row; they sell out in minutes.

It's almost certainly because JD can keep up with demand; if no one else can, they're capable.

I agree with everything you're saying - what I'm saying is I don't think 4R BS are popular *enough* for the quality. And yes - RR everything except the 13 seems to be criminally overlooked.

Side note leaving it half open for a month helped it taste solid! Went from just fire to maybe 6.5/7 out of 10
