Maybe if you do an aftermarket tune, and an overly ambitious one at that. Otherwise, I'm not worried about turbo longevity.

You should start a car company, sounds like you have this figured out.

Of course there is. Forced induction is harder on engines. Always has been, always will be.

If I get 300k out of an engine I'm good , your making it sound like they will all blow up at 80 thousand. Again stop the fear mongering

Can you fund it? @SwollenGoat and I will do the design work. We’ll call it Goat Turd Motors.

Now you’re just making things up. I never said such thing.
Goats first gen motor went 435K miles. Do you have any turbo engine examples with similar mileage? Do you honestly think a 4th gen motor will last that long?

Do you have an example saying they won't last that long? You're the one bringing up . I bet you there are turbo engines put there that last that long with proper maintenance

What they should have done is put in an old straight 6 with cast iron block from the 60s complete with vacuum tubes and carburetor. 3 on the tree would also be a good idea. Its proven reliable.

Stop fear mongering. I’ve seen plenty of 2jz’s with that mileage. Also plenty of examples of old turbo Saabs and Volvo’s getting to extremely high mileage, on turbo tech from the 80s and 90’s, running Dino oil. We’ve seen supercharged 3.4s and 4.0s reach ridiculously high mileage, and those engines were never designed with force induction in mind. The 2.4l was designed from the ground up to handle forced induction and had to meet the SAME durability standards that the previous engines did. If manufactures could accomplish that mileage in the 90’s, then it’s not some absurd feat in 2023 with modern synthetic oil, better tolerances, higher thermal efficiency and electronically controlled engine management.

Regardless that kind of mileage is irrelevant to most owners because the cost of maintaining the rest of the truck above 300k is usually prohibitive. Ask goat how much work he had to do on the truck. If you have the resources, skills, knowledge and tools to keep a NA gas truck working above 350k then a simple turbo replacement above 250k isn’t daunting. If you actually use your truck as a 4x4, then there’s a long list of preventative items that need to be addressed by 200k, and they won’t be cheap if you want OEM components.

Yup. Well said. Theres a user in the 1G forum with like 800k on a blown 3.4 but turd is terrified of FI on a motor designed exactly for the job

I’m not terrified you moron. I’m saying a forced injection motor has a shorter lifespan than NA. Fact. There’s no need to argue. We can revisit this in 10 years and I’ll say “told you so”.

I can't see forced induction adding longevity to an engine.

Probably a non-issue for most people. 15-20K/yr (way above 13k average) is only 135-180K. Just don't buy used, it will be someone else's problem.
