We ended up out in Oconomowoc. Measured 9" of ice on Silver Lake. Good time fishing and the new coat and bibs stood up to the wind very well! Found out that my 20 year old cheap-ass hunting boots weren't cut out for it though. Toes got pretty chilly, so I'll be doing a little boot shopping.
    :spending:

I'd post a pic of me with my beard and mustache all iced up, but it would be a fishing pic with no fish in it, because we didn't catch any, and that just wouldn't be right.

Ice fishing has nothing-to-do with catching fish. :p

I've never done great on Silver lake. I like Moose, but there's only a few parking spots, so you need to go early. I spent a lot of time finding a few productive spots there.

It depends if you're going alone, or with friends. I had a tendency to go alone, so catching fish was the goal. I've done my share of jamboree style, ice parties with tip-ups, though.

To settle the question about which Gen Tacoma is best. I asked Alexa.
    She said,,,,,

2nd Gen is the best Gen, with 2015 being the best year.

Apparently it wasn't Alexas voice that was changed.
You could get the weather report in his voice.

This is true, but getting my ass up before 5 on a Sunday I was hoping to at least see a fish. Still had a good time. At least the whiskey was biting.

Yeah, quite a few people out there and we didn't see action from any of them. When the wind picked up, so did most of the fishermen. Trying again next weekend, but elsewhere.

17058832494422039637578307268270.jpg I bought LaCrosse Ice Kings (Mans?) 25 years ago 'cause the Sorels wouldn't cut it for a full day of deer hunting in the bitter cold. I got tired of cold feet. They definitely are not hiking boots, but for sitting you can't beat 'em.

Honestly, I'll probably make it through this winter with my old boots and an extra pair of socks and get something better for next year. Somehow I have committed to an adventure with @pearing in March, and I know I could use that boot money on gear and supplies for that. Will bookmark those LaCrosse boots though.

    BUY.....THEM......NOW.

When you've had 'em for 20 years and they still keep your feet warm, you will have gotten your money's worth out of them. Buy once cry once.
I wonder how they measured that -60º rating?

EDIT: You posted seconds b4 I did.

    So. Many. Stickers.
Sorry mates, sister's wedding this weekend. Whew. Saw an ex there too. Happy for her. I didn't go home with a tear in my eye. Shutup. It's just an old playlist.

It's cold enough that they get wonky. Some of those tiny little batteries have trouble actively sending radio signals.

At 8 years I'm real impressed. They work at all. The average life on those little things is only 50,000 mi and maybe 5 years.

Grandma asked me a few years ago about Echo and Alexa and all that nonsense. I told her it'd been a while since I took a rifle out back and shot something...

To each their own, I think the idea is cool but I don't trust companies that make that stuff, I don't trust the government that sets mandates on them, I don't trust the parts, suppliers from other companies, etc. I know too many people that do high end IT work for me to want that stuff around my house in good conscience.

Told my friend once when they visited that I keep a gun in the kitchen just in case one of the appliances starts acting up. He laughed. I laughed. The toaster laughed. I shot the toaster. Good times.
