What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Got a source? I just installed front seat jackers to try to help with long road trip comfort, and haven't yet been able to test them out.

 

Do you only have 1 of the jackers installed here? I hope you don't try to drive it like that as it will not work very well and probably bend the Seat mount.

 

Yeah, IIRC those are a 100K mile service part. Belts and Hoses - all of the rubber at the front of the engine.

I was referring to your comment - I just wanted to learn more. Can you elaborate on the differences you experienced with the powered seats vs manual seats?

 

OH! Absolutely!

The Auto seats have a setting to adjust the lift in the front of the seat already plus the addition of the automatic mechanism gives the seat a little more upward rake to start out with. Putting the Jackers in meant that even with my seat adjusted to the lowest setting, I still had difficulty with ingress and egress of the vehicle. I'm tall, head hit the roof, and my thighs didn't want to easily clear the steering wheel. I loved the storage space it created under the seat for all sorts of stuff like radios and gear. My passenger seat is manual and the wife is short so I thought I would put them over there. Without the motors and mechanisms there was even more space for stuff. But alas she noticed right away that the seat was taller to get into and didn't like it (she's 4'11"). They worked well but not to her liking.

Since then I ask people that review them online and of the people that don't like them, 80% (roughly) are automatic seat trucks. TBF there are some auto seat people that love them. Even tall people that love them. So it very much is a personal taste and preference, body geometry, vehicle configuration thing. I just think they get too much publicity as a "magic bullet" or "one size fits all" cure type of product. Good for some, not all is more accurate.

 

Size: Yeah, I'm 6'1" and was generally wondering about overall room for me after raising the front of the seat. I too have noticed a generally positive vibe for them and wondered about all the variables.

I'm trying them out as I had the seat front edge adjustment maxed out upward, and the back edge adjustment maxed out downward, and still tended to get uncomfortable in my hips and thighs on longer drives. I had about 2-3" of extra head room before installing the jackers. So far I've felt similar issues you describe just getting in and out of the truck (esp. thighs and knees). We'll see how it goes.

 

I have to agree with the seat jacker sentiment. I have an automatic seat. I have the seat jackers in and I have to torque my neck to get my head inside the cab now. Causing back issues. They’re going bye bye this week.

I see it now that I look a bit closer. Tucked a bit behind the carpet. Just looking out for a fellow taco enthusiast I'm still waiting on my fronts to come in. I'm thinking with it being up more, not only will it be more comfortable but I may be able to see over the big snout on it a bit easier but I guess we will see

 

Gosh darn it TW! I have mostly made my peace with the seating position and now I find out about seat jackers. There goes another $100 for something I didn’t know I need/want.

Same with locking gas cap, radio knobs, LED reverse lights, H9 bulb swap, SaBellCo, OTT, 6112/5160s…

I want do do something like this. I am going to play with rewiring myself though. I remember back in the day when everyone was removing amber lights and replacing with clear...now it's the opposite...funny how it swings.

I like the idea...I would paint those screw heads though. That's just me.

Yes, steering wheel controls still work. It's like having your cell phone embedded into the HU. The only issue is you don't see volume level but I'm still learning all additional features so might be something I have missed

Update: volume level only viewable if you switch to the Aux input because this is the input that the Android interface uses for the audio stream.
