I have a 2004 Xtra cab that's in MPH. I'm in Canada and been having issues seeing the small KM/H and have been thinking of options for better viewing. I'm not interested in doing a cluster swap, I'm more thinking of leaving it MPH but putting a KM/H overlay or some kind of secondary digital gauge on top of the dash. I have done some googling but there don't seem to be much for options. What have you / other people done?

Two options for phone that you can pick one of those:

    1) Speed app with KM/H option

    2) Maps app with KM/H option.

Don't Scan Gauge and Ultra Gauge type devices have a speedo option?

I was looking at the scangauge, it's great but my only issue is cost. Essentially that's what I want but the cheap speed only version.

Garmin GPS with lifetime updates from eBay.

Mine is about 10yo, works great, prefer it over a phone. Mostly because it works easy when there is no cell service.

You don't need cell service on phone for GPS... You can use GPS offline. Download maps and go from there. GPS is inside the phone to tell you where to go... no cell service needed.

It works for me when I go on long trips when there is no cell coverage in some areas.

100% have used my Garmin mounted on the window of my land land rover when the speedometer would stop working randomly. and use it on my Hyundai because its accurate with the oversized tires stuffed under it. cheap Garmin off EBAY, as long as the thing says LTM after the model number your golden. also can often get one with a dead battery pretty inexpensive, and a replacement battery is often cheap off Amazon if your cord sucks like mine does

    I'm aware.

I prefer to leave my phone free for other purposes

Cheapest option: multiply by 0.6, lol. I had my first trip into Canada last year and within a couple hours i had it down. Didn't take long to remember the conversion based on the limited number of different common speed limits.

They make HUD gismos that plug into the ODBII and project the speed in front of you.

Ever since I upsized to 35" tires, I've been using my phone running Google Maps with speed displayed. It hasn't been inconvenient enough to motivate me to install the speedometer calibrator I bought...

thought i will say this, my current Tacoma i have a Head unit that also shows speed on the map as it pops up which is also pretty nice. but that was much more expensive then the garmin

But if an SCII with all its other functions was price prohibitive.......

I grouse hunt in the Sunset Country of Ontario in the Fall. Cross at Ft. Francis and come back through Thunder Bay. Both my Garmin Nuvi and Google Maps on Android conveniently switch over from mph to km/h automatically. The Garmin has functionality that Google maps does not and the other way around, I use both. I am impressed with cell phone coverage in Canada I have it pretty much everywhere, almost to the point where the roads end and float planes take over. Gas stations now that is a different story LOL. I fill it when I see one plus carry 20 gallons on the trailer.

…Or maybe multiply by 1.6 to take miles up to km.
