Worked at a site back in the 80s that had three extended cab 4x4 turbocharged 4cyl. toyota pickups that were run 24/7 . Not many miles on them but lots of hours. They were indestructible! Would have no reservations buying a turbo 4cyl. Tacoma or any other 4cyl turbo or not vehicle from Toyota. Too bad the 2024 Tacomas are so damn expensive!!

98k and still going strong, and I don’t drive it like grandma either. I won’t tune it though.

I don’t consider that high mileage. You need to add a 1 in front of that first. I traded mine in around 115K. It was in tough shape. I doubt it lasted much longer.

Shoot, had brand new appliances not work.

Replaced the 50+ year old furnace with a new one, 4 years later it is already needing work.

Products are certainly not built to last these days, or even being worked on, “they” much rather have you buy a whole new unit.

Super behind in the thread, but to answer your question; thats the point. I'm not arguing for the legitimacy of someone else's article. I'm saying if you understand how to interpret the data, it can be of value to you. If you blindly trust, or the opposite blindly dismiss, well, thats not really respecting the data. If you interpret the data to be biased in some way, pointing to a more realistic of ranking of 7th, you read between the lines and did your homework. If you argued for 1st/2nd because its your fav brand and blindly trusted it in the name of "well nobody else understands the data", thats not really helpful.

If it wasn't clear, I was speaking to both sides that were arguing. Data is good. Skepticism (looking for bias) is also good. Both are welcomed, or at least should be, by anyone who claims to understand data. But the data guy isn't going to convince the 'against-data' guy that the data is valid, so its a lost cause.

Id agree it isn’t high mileage for proving longevity, but 0 problems is a good sign at this mileage.

You probably had an EJ series engine? Those first came out in the 90s and Subaru has finally ditched them with these modern FA series engines which are proving more reliable. I trust Toyota can make an even more reliable turbocharged engine than Subaru too. Only time will tell us though how the 2.4 does

Well, all caught up, and see I didn't miss anything out or the "norm" for around here. That is, people talking to people they've ignored, arguing about turbos again, and @TacoBuffet still on the fence about a 4th gen lol. I'm just here waiting for someone (hopefully tacobuffet) to snag one and give some real unbiased feedback.

As a guy who bought a house last year and spent way to much money on new appliances, I feel targeted D: It is really a shame though. If you want anything to last in a cost-effective manner you pretty much need to get good at DIY repairs and part sourcing. Else you'll definitely hit that 7 year mark and it'll be cheaper to buy a new one if you need to pay techs to come service it all the time.

My first allocation was canceled or given to another dealer (will never know after temp vin stopped working), my new allocation has a build date of 2/2, so maybe end of feburary, early march (right when my daughter shows up). Ive been tundra shopping too but dont love it.

I'm sure someone will have one before me, I'm guessing the guys in SET region since they are in port now getting port options and are allowed to head to dealers on 1/25 according to my guy, found a few OR true VINS and confirmed dealer texts of built and in transit. Lots of Sports and SR5s though, guessing there was a part source issue or QC issue with the ORs at some point too.

You’ll be too busy with her, and too too tired to even think about a new truck. :p

If you’re not loving the Tundra, doubt you’ll love the 4G Tacoma as it is a baby Tundra.

Ohhh, I have been called worse. Got to be like a duck and let it slide off yer back. Hell, I was told to shut the fuck up, yet here I am. :) Ironically have been extremely bored with all this nonsense, was going to take break, now feel compelled to stay. :p

@SwollenGoat Can you relay the info to Steve that if he doesn’t want the frame that it’s going to the scrap yard and I’m sorry I called him a moron even if he may or may not have deserved it. Thanks. :D

The Taco looks better to me and so does the price. We shall see. I dont mind Tundras if they are lifted and nicely modded. This week I had 3 people stop me to tell me how perfect my truck was so maybe a sign, one guy on way to clinical, service tech at dealer, my coworker in SICU leaving work (also a Taco dude, but has a overland 2006).

When something does break there probably won’t be parts available for it anyways.

I’ll am still sticking to my “you’re worse than a damn chick” (and I mean that in the nicest way possible, my wife drives me nuts with her indecision lol!)

Yeah the Tundy needs at least 35s to look half way decent. Price-wise, dunno if you are willing to give up some amenities might be able to get into a Tundra cheaper. I am the liking the SR5 with the SR5 conveniences package, 32 gal tank with softex seats among other things.

Still need see the 4G in person and drive it before I can make a decision. And really…believe waiting to see how this year pans out with falling prices. Finding some nice F150s with the STX package in the mid to low 40s. Yeah, yeah I like the absolute base trim, but do like a center console. Not crazy about column shifter, always hated those things. Drove manuals for too long.

Which is another reason I'm leaning towards getting a lightly used 3rd gen instead of a 4th gen. Mountains of parts available. I wouldn't expect toyota to have a huge supply of spare parts for the new trucks any time soon, since they'll be using them for production builds.

@Turd Ferguson Appreciate the offer and apology. I'm in NJ and don't know where you are and ironically my Toyota is under repair so no way to travel to pick up unless you're local near Philly I could rent a truck. Now this only leaves bat on the ignore list. :p
