Spent more on this build than a new Shelby. Not as fast as a new Shelby, not as comfortable as a new Shelby, not as reliable as a new Shelby.

This sums up my feelings on the matter. FI won't extend life, so you're left with two options: 1) The turbo 4 matches the reliability of the V6, or 2) the turbo 4 is less reliable than the V6.

But even if it is #2, what kind of decrease would we be ok with? I figure as long as the turbo 4 can make it to 200k miles relatively trouble free following a solid maintenance schedule then that's perfectly acceptable in my book, and covers 97.5% of use cases across ALL Tacoma drivers. As of right now all we can do is wait and see over the next couple years.

Bottom line, even if the new taco with the turbo 4 has issues early on, I would fully expect Toyota to iron them out relatively quickly (1 - 2 model years). Buyers of a first year new gen truck should expect some teething problems, drivetrain or otherwise.

My wife had a Forester XT. We got rid of it before any problems started and while it was still worth decent money.

If it’s anything like the new tundra we’ll only have to wait a couple years. I’ll admit if I was wrong though.

    Wow! 427 too!

And that is thing with vintage cars, can get a modern one, cheaper, faster, handles better and quite a bit safer. Love the old iron, but that is the reality.

That new GTD is smoking! Would get into way too much trouble with it, already went down that road with fast cars and learned my lesson. Why I am perfectly fine with sloooow Toyotas, at least they used to be slow.

But in 10 years nobody will care about the new Shelby...yours will still be as sweet then as it is now....and it might be worth more.

You can currently get the Subaru Ascent, Outback, Legacy, and WRX all with the same FA24 2.4T.
It is looking to be a stout engine, and is used in a large number of their vehicles. There is a report Subaru bought back one used as a courier with 300k miles on it.

Those are direct injection only engines too, so Toyota should easily best it with their D4S in the Tacoma's 2.4T.

Had more time look it up, more detail on what comes in the package.

Bummer no cooled seats, would use that over the heated. Tend to run hot, no need for the butt warmers.

That is for sure. I only watched a few seconds and wanted to hurl. I’m not sure Toyota marketing got their moneys worth on that one.

That was all Blair Witch Project. Lol! Yeah couldn’t watch much.

@Plasmech was wanting to know how the Pro rides compared to the Trail Hunter…looked a little rough! :p
