    10.5" BRN-180 Gen 2 pistol in 223 Wylde. Short stroke gas piston system. Adjustable gas block. Can be shot folded. Couple hundred rounds through this maybe? Anderson lower with ambi safety, Magpul trigger guard and grip, SBA3 pistol brace.

    $1200 with optic and sights. Sig Romeo 5 and Magpul MBUS2 pop ups.

    $1000 without.

    I hike with a 357.
    I thought I hiked with it for black bears, mountain lions and bobcats.
    Turns out I've only had to pull it once for any wildife in the 12 years I' been out here - a bear in Fay Canyon Sedona.
    But I've pulled it twice for tweakers and once for a lady that had two huge mastiffs running off leash that took exception to me. She was a good 100 yards down the trail behind the dogs.

    "Just because" is the best reason for anything.

    45 and OC spray for me. Ive seen a bear or two but nothing concerning.
    Its the off leash "rescue" dogs that frustrate me

    meh, most of your problems are gonna be humans or their fur babies,
    modern 9 can handle both well enough.

    most bears this far south will run away from your smell and noise
    if a mountain lion is really hunting you, you probably will never see it until after its on you.

    so nothing to worry about.
